Couples club
write poetry
Six couples met, Saturday
evening in the Sunday School
rooms of the United Church.
Purpose of this meeting was to
plant flowers in the urns and
flower beds around the church.
The devotional period centred
on the theme, "The Beauty
Around Us," arid a responsive
reading.
Two readings were given from
books written by Gwen Frostic.
The first was about our depen-
ddnce on Nature from "Wing
Born," and second on how man
can destroy nature, from
"Contemplate,"
To further appreciate and
experience the beauty of Nature,
Scenic books were passed around
and each one to write poetry fror
a picture.
Durimg the social time two
games were played. Leroy Keyes
was the recipient of a surprise
gift of a "Pet Rock" on the oc-
casion of his birthday.
Birthday cake and ice cream
were served for lunch, Couples in
charge of this meeting were Jean
& Don Weignad, Elsie & Leroy
Keyes, Donna & Larry Lovie and
Marlene & Fred Desjardine.
NURSING GRAD — Charlene
Regier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joe Regier, RR 2, Zurich, recently
graduated from The Ontario
Ministry of Colleges and Univer-
sities Nursing Assistant Centre,
London. Charlene is now
employed at .South Huron
Hospital, Exeter'
parents served a dinner to his
grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Viola Curts, London, was a
weekend visitor at the home of
Evelyn and Manuel Curts.
Mr. and Mrs. George Gollen
attended the baptismal service in
Clinton United Church, Sunday,
when their granddaughter,
Tanya Elizabeth, daughter of
Cliff and Donna Hallam was
baptized.
By the way: According to one
of the younger boys of the Jr.
Sunday School, God was not in
Church Sunday morning, but
locked in their bathroom at
home. 'Cause the last thing he
heard when he left was his daddy

home from Scotland where he has

University. While there he

graduation dinner was held at the

and Crediton. Mrs. McCallum is
Mrs. Preszcator's sister.
Mrs. Mary Thornton is a
patient in Seaforth Memorial
Hospital.

Saturday evening for a farewell
party for Les Gorman, Mr.

A special service was held in
the United Church Sunday, which
members of the Junior Sunday
School conducted. Karen
Guenther led in the service and
was assisted by Eric and Glen
Bullock.
Two selections were rendered
by a youth choir. Robert Elliott of
Parkhill delivered meditation on
the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians.
Chris Eagleson and Paul
Lagerwerf were the ushers.
U.C,W. Meets
The U.C.W. held their June
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Edna Woodburn, Grand Bend.
Rev. and Mrs. Harley Moore
were in charge of the program.
Mrs. Jacob Lagerwerf presided
during the business session when
plans were completed for the
strawberry and ham supper, this
month. Mrs. Lawrence Curts
assisted the hostess in serving
refreshments.

Mr. and Mrs. Selbourne
English visited over the weekend
with the latter's sisters and
families in and around Cornwall.
Mr. and Mrs. Clare Reid have
returned home, following a few
days visit with their daughter and
family in Mississauga.

Grand Bend United came up
against the No. 1 rated South
Western Ontario Senior Pee Wee
team on Sunday, when they
travelled to Centennial Park,
Sarnia to take on the National All
Stars and gained a 5-5 tie.
Sarnia dominated the opening
minutes of play, but their early
lead was short lived thanks to a
well executed equalizer from
Grand Bend centre-half Doug
Relouw. The home team stormed
ahead again with two unan-
swered goals, but the "Pinery
Panthers" made it 3-2 when left-
winger John Wiendels shot home
from close range.
Sarnia opened the second-half
as they did the first, dominating
