The funeral service for Carlton Handers, father of Mrs. Wilmar Wein, was held in Watford, Tuesday afternoon. Lt, Col. & Mrs. Robert Palmer and Mark, Ottawa, and Calvin Fahrner, Mississauga, were weekend visitors at the home of Mr. & Mrs, Emmery Fahrner. Tony Martens is a patient at Sc, Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Will Oestricher visited last week with Mrs. Oestricher's sisters, Mrs. S. L. Honey and Mrs. R. W. McBain, Grimsby. Mr. & Mrs. Harry Gielen celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary, Friday • with a dinner for family and neighbours at the Kirkton-Woodham Com- munity Centre, followed by a reception and dance there. Mrs. Gielen's sister and her husband, her parents and an uncle flew from Holland to take part in the happy occasion! The sister and her husband had to return after a brief, three-day visit; the parents and uncle are spending several weeks in Canada. Messages of congratulation were received from government officials, and from friends in Holland and Germany, as well as from well wishers in this area. At the Sunday morning service at Zion United Church, Harry Schroeder sang the song of which he composed both the music and words. Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Gill assisted him in committing the music to scale. Lucan seniors play cards Members of the Sunshine and Busy Buddies' groups met on Thursday afternoon in the Masonic Hall for cards and crafts. During a brief business meeting chaired by President Merna O'Neil, members were reminded to have their money in for their tickets for the Huron Country Playhouse production by today, Thursday. Birthday greetings were ex- tended to Lois Thompson, Iva Hodgins, Earl Atkinson and Murray Shoebottom, Euchre Prizes went to Margaret Allen for high Lady's score; Marjorie Steeper Lone Hands; and Mary Hodgson the low prize. Frank Mcllhargey won Man's High; Charlotte Barker Man's Lone and Harriet Holmes Man's Low, both playing men's cards. Bridge prizes went to Gordon Hotson for high score and Maude Hodgins low. The Busy Buddies continued working on their liquid em- broidery, The members of this group decided to have the tickets made and distributed on the Floral Quilt. Mrs. Ford is residing in Kit- chener with her son Mr. & Mrs, Clarence Ford. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper visited with Mr. & Mrs. Don Kyle, London on Monday celebrating several birthdays. Mr. & Mrs. John Batten camped with several other families of the Atisahle River Nomads at 13earnsville an the weekend. The Thames Rd. United Churches held their Mission and Service day at the Thames Rd. United Church. A film called "In as Much," was showed during the morning service. Mrs, Gerald Dearing, newly appointed president, welcomed the guests. Mrs. Donald Finkbeiner chaired the program. Roll call was answered by introducing the grandmother invited, and displaying the an- tique brought. Mrs. Harvey Andrews read a poem on antiques and talked •about the antiques on display. Mrs. Earl Haist gave a reading, on mothers and grand- mothers. Dave Sheppard, Grand Bend one of the guest speakers of the evening talked about his hobbies of antique collection and fur- niture refinishing. The second guest speaker was Mary Ann Gielen, home economist from Grand Prairie, Alberta. She told of her ex- periences in her work and her travels. There wasi a contest for grandmothers. Prizes were given to the grandmother with the most grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret Clarke; to the grandmother with the youngest grandchild, Mrs. Harvey Andrews; to the youngest grandmother, Mrs. Doug Lewis; to the oldest grandmother, Mrs. Cora Wein and Mrs. Nelson Schenk. Flowers were given to the contestants and to the speakers. During the business session, it was decided to attend a showing of "George Washington Slept Here" at the Huron Country Playhouse in August. The Historical Committee are planning a dedication of the Community Field gates in June. Mrs. Eric Finkbeiner was ap- pointed to the Kitchen Com- mittee. It was agreed to cater for the Stephen Central School Graduation Banquet in June. Mrs. Cliff Kenney presented a gift to Mrs. Roylance Westcott and Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne, district president and secretary. Theybrought greetings from the Huron South organization. Lunch was served by the Sep- tember committee.
