Royals score third win, meet Irish, tonight When the Lucan-Ilderton Jets take to the ice for the 1977.78 Ontario Hockey Association Continental Senior Season they will have a new coach behind the bench. Jets president Harry Loyens announced Tuesday night that Jack Chipchase had accepted the coaching position with the Jets after a playing career which spanned 17 years. Chipchase, a native of Hensall went to the Toronto Marlboros of the Junior OHA in 1960 and moved on to a long professional career with Tulsa, Rochester, Omaha, Roanoke, Philadelphia and Victoria. He left pro ranks last year to join the Jets as a player and was regarded as the top defenceman in the league. The Jets new coach is no stranger to handling players, He coached Roanoke Valley in the Southern league and Philadelphia of the North American league. He also acted as general manager for part of a year at Roanoke, Chipchase takes over the coaching duties from Don Urb- shott who has been, involved with Lucan-Ilderton teams for the past 15 years. Urbshott who coached the club last year with assistance from Pete Loveless and Bill Bourne jokingly said, "I'm being kicked upstairs to the manager's job." In addition to handling most of the Jets executive duties since their inception some seven years ago, Urbshott was instrumental in organizing the Continental League. Loyens and Urbshott said Chipchase was the unanimous choice of the executive when they were looking for a new coach. Urbshott said the dual chore of general manager and coach was "just too much for one man." He continued, "It was a real good break for us to get Jack as the coach. He was a big influence on the players last year and was the team leader," Chipchase intends to use a system similar to that used by the Philadelphia Flyers, He told the T-A Tuesday night at the home of Harry Loyens, "It's a good system and will give us a com- plete team effort. A good system is half the battle." He continued, "We will also have a well conditioned team and they will be aggressive. With the Flyers system as a guide we will be able to take advantage of two- on-one situations many, many times." The Jets hope to open training camp at the Huron Park arena about September 15. The Ilderton arena is occupied with a hockey school for the first two weeks of September. Urbshott and Chipchase in- dicated they were looking for any young players in the area who wished to try out with the Jets saying every position on the team will be open, Two members of last year's club are not expected back. They are Brian Murphy and Bill Bannerman who will be taking over joint coaching duties of the Strathroy Juniors. Lawn bowling starts Tuesday The Exeter Lawn Bowling Club began their season on Monday with about 40 who enjoyed bowling on the sunny afternoon. A pot-luck supper, convened by Gertrude Hamilton was enjoyed at 65.30. A short business meeting took place after which many enjoyed another jitney. Next bowling will be on Tuesday evening, May 31. The Seaforth bowlers have invited Exeter for bowling on Thursday evenin , June 9. The Exeter Royals chalked up their third straight victory in the Southwestern Fastball Association Thursday night as they bombed West Corners by a score of 13-4. Tom Daley and Brian Hodgins led the Royals at the plate with three hits each while Pete Glover, Jack Glover, Scott Burton and Steve Hodgins all had two hits, Tigers Continued from Page 1D the pitching distance for Dash- wood and deserved a better fate as he gave up only six hits over the full nine inning route and struck out 11 opposing batters, The Tigers travelled to Cambridge Tuesday night and came away with an 8.8 tie with the Cambridge Pirates, in an exhibition contest. The Dashwood club came through with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to gain the tip, Three straight walks after Bob Hoffman and Joe O'Rourke singled and Dave Parsons was safe on an error produced the last minute Tiger tallies. They scored four times in the third with base hits coming from the bats of Terry O'Rourke, John Hayter, Jim Guenther and Jim Hoffman. John Hayter walked and scored in the first inning on singles from Rick Schilbe and Jim Guenther, Jim Guenther started on the mound for Dashwood and was relieved by Kevin Bestard in the sixth when Cambridge scored four times.
