Mrs. Gladys Hern, and Mrs. Lorne Hern enjoyed a three day bus tour to Holland, Michigan with the Kirkton -Horticultural Society. Right now there are Canadian cancer research scientists in- vestigating viruses as a possible cause of human cancer; others are concentrating on the body's immune defense system; still others are examining basic life processes within cells. This is a sampling of the many peojects devoted to understanding and controlling cancer. Help support, the research effort in Canada by giving generously to the Canadian Cancer Society's an- nual campaign, By MRS, HAROLD DAVIS Members of the Horticulture Society started on their journey from Kirkton United Church grounds May 13 for a three day holiday at the tulip festival at Holland, Michigan. We toured the Windmill Island which has the only authentic operating Dutch Windmill in the country, It was moved from native home in the Netherlands to Holland, Michigan in 1964 restored and rebuilt. It grinds its own flour with the original grindstone and wooden gears. Its wings have a span to challenge the height of a 12 storey building. We also toured the Dutch village tulip farms. Some of the tulips were past due to the hot weather, We then went uptown shopping, while there viewed a fantastic parade with 50 bands, floats, old cars, etc. participating. The following day we left for home, after a very enjoyable trip. Personals Ray'Norris has returned home from University Hospital, London where he had undergone surgery. Peter Simpson, Terry and Steve, Mr. & Mrs, Burns Blackler went by airplane to a Fly-In at Blenheim on Sunday. Miss Jayne Blackler, David Blackler, Steven Blackler, Mrs. Peter Simpson and Shirley motored by car. Mr. & Mrs. David Shamblaw visited with Mr. & Mrs, Clarence Bryant at Appin, Sunday. Burns and Ken Blackler at- tended Synod in London this week as delegates,. Mr. & Mrs. Miller McCurdy, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Davis were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. .& Mrs. Harold Henry, Jeff and Mrs. Wm. J. Blackler, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Atkinson, Lashburn, Saskatchewan visited the past two weeks with their son and family Mr. & Mrs. Dr. Atkinson. Mr, & Mrs. George Burgin attended a conference in Ottawa on the weekend. Visitors with Mr, & Mrs. Wm. Maddock over the weekend were Mrs. Maddock's brother Granton from Vancouver Island and her sister Jafferine from Owen Sound and son Robert from Port Hope. Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Denham and family, Cecil Skinner, Clinton attended the graduation of Lynda Denham at Centralia College, Friday, Miss Marlene Weaver of Owen Sound spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Denham and Lynda. Mr. & Mrs. Fred Brock and Laurie, Kitchener visited during the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Doug Coward.
