BIDDULPH TOWNSHIP
PUBLIC MEETING
The Planning Board of the Township of Biddulph has
prepared an' Official Plan describing a program and policy
of desired growth for the Township.
A Public Meeting will be held in the Township Building, No.
4 Highway, near Lucan on the evening of. May 25, 1977 star-
ting at 8:30 p.m. to explain and discuss the proposals con-
tained in the Official Plan.
Any interested ratepayer may examine the Official Plan at
the Clerks Office, R.R. 1, Lucan any day prior to the meeting
between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Jack Riddell is a graduate of the University of Guelph, with a
B.Sc. in Agriculture. He is a former high school teacher, having
taught at Clinton and Exeter.
He owns and, operates a 200 acre beef farm in Stephen
Township. Married to the former Leone Bryan of Biddulph
'Township. They have a family of four girls and one boy.
'A Liberal member of the Legislature since 1973, he was the
'Agriculture critic for the Liberal Party in the last session of the
Provincial Parliament.

Disturbances highlight local
investigations by OPP force
The May, meeting of the
Clandeboye Women's Institute
was held Wednesday evening in
St. James Church basement.
Special guests were the 4-H
members and their mothers.
The roll call "Why I like to be
an Institute Member or a 4-H
Club Member" was answered by
21 Institute Members and 17 4-H
members. There were 22 visitors.
In the business the members
agreed on a resolution that is to
be voted on at the District Annual
this quesday,May 17 at Parkhill.
Edit Worthington and Terry
Heffernan are to go as
delegates.
4-H Achievement Day is June 4
at Parkhill.The 80th Anniversary
of the Womens Institute at
Bingham Park, Kitchener, July
13th was discussed but no definite
plans made.
An evening at the Huron
Country Playhouse the last week
of July to see "Babes in Arms" a
Rogers-Hart musical, was
•agreed on and anyone wishing to
go please contact Mrs. Peter
Groenewegen at 227-4939 or Mrs.
Arnold Blake at 227-4889. We will
go as group by school bus.
The June meeting will be held
at "Craigholme" Nursing Home,
Ailsa Craig on June 14, 2 p.m.
with Group 4 in charge of the
program and lunch, Mrs. Art
Hodgins gave a report on her trip
to the Conveners Conference held
at Waterloo University last week.
The meeting was turned over to
the Convener of Public Relations,
Mrs. Roy Cunningham, who had
arranged. a "Fashion Show"
presented by "Stretch and Sew"
of Oakridge Acres, London, and
enjoyed by all.
The clothes that were modelled
were made by the ladies that
presented the show.
The 4-H girls showed their
blouses they have ready for
Achievement Day and gave
comments on them. 4-H Record
Explorers
play games
Games of Red Rover and Chi
Chi were played outside by the
Lucan Explorers, Monday. Girls
divi ded into groups of four
representing Asia, Africa, South
America and two girls in North
America.
The last group received a plate
full of cookies,others almost one
cookie each to show that food in
the world is not equally
distributed, They discussed how ,
they felt having 1 -too many
cookies,2 -few cookies, 3-sharing.
Bouquets of fresh flowers were
made to take home to Mothers.
Last week each girl received 25c
talent money to spend in the best
way she could. Some bought corn
and sun flower seeds to plant.
Three others gave it to missions.
One sold greeting cards and
brought a profit of 65c for
missions. Another bought pillow
slips at a thrift store f,or 25c etc.
Cathy Kaune read the story of
two sons. Each told her favourite
colour, game, pet, food, clothes.
We closed with a prayer on
choosing life.
Wednesday May 25 at 7 p.m, all
parents are invited to the last
expedition, when Jill Cun-
ningham and Lori Riley will
graduate.
Books were on display.
Lunch was served and a social
half hour ended a very in-
teresting meeting.
Several ladies from Clan-
deboye United Church attended
the North West Regional meeting
of the Middlesex Presbyterial
U.C.W. held at Brinsley United
Church, Thursday evening.
Mr. & Mrs. Art Hodgins at-
tended graduation exercises at
Centralia College of Agricultural
Technology on Friday afternoon.
Paul Hodgins was a graduate in
the Agricultural Business
Management course.

cancelled
Lucan United Church was
cancelled Sunday, but members
attended the Anniversary Service
at Clandeboye United Church
Sunday morning, followed by a
"finger luncheon" and a meeting
of the Official Board plus other
members. Those present agreed
to "call" Rev. M. Keith H. Brown
BA,, B.D. of Markdale to be the
minister for the Lucan-
clandeboye Charge.
The Evening Unit of the U.C.W.
will meet next Tuesday evening
at 8 p.m, in the C.E. Wing con-
tinuing their study on "Peoples &
Systems". Plans will be made for
the annual June "outing", All
women of the congregation are
invited,
Officers of the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police investigated seven
domestic and disturbance in-
cidents this week.
The most notable was a
disturbance at the Shillelagh
Motel, Several youths from
Lucan and Parkhill have been
charged and the investigation is
continuing.
Seven accidents were reported
during the week with three
persons suffering injuries and
damages totalled $11,450.
Three of the mishaps occurred
in less than an hour early Sunday
morning,
At 12:33 a.m. on Concession 2
of Biddulph township, a half mile
south of Highway 4, a pickup
truck driven by Yvon St. Amour,
Lucan collided with a parked car.
Anthony Manders, who was
attempting to push the stalled
vehicle tothe side of the road and
a passenger, Gwen Densmore
received minor injuries and were
taken to University Hospital,
London by Haskett's Ambulance.
Constable Jim Craig advised
both vehicles were demolished
and set damages at $3,500.
Seniors to
watch play
Members of the Sunshine and
the Busy Buddies craft groups of
the Lucan Senior Citizens voted
at their meeting on Thursday
afternoon to attend the "George
Washington Slept Here"
production of the Huron Country
Playhouse, Wednesday, August
10.
Each member will pay $5.00 to
cover the theatre and
smorgasbord dinner. Non-
members as of this date, will
have to pay the whole cost of
$9.00, which is still a very
reasonable outing,
Lloyd Elliott and Harold
Cobleigh are patients at St.
Joseph's Hospital and it was
reported that Violet Hardy and
Ethel Crouch who were patients
are now recuperating at their
respective homes.
The new social conveners Mary
Kooey and Mildred Hirtzel
convened eight tables of euchre
with prizes going as follows:
High Lady Kathleen Neil; Low
Lady Harriet Holmes; Lone
Hands Alma Hodgins; High Man
Patrick Marriman; Low Mary
Hodgson, playing a man's card
and Lone Hands Cecil Robb.
Bridge prizes went to Evelyn
O'Neil for high score and Helen
Thompson low.
The Busy Buddies continued
their blocks for the "bird" quilts.
Birthday greetings were ex-
tended to Vina Emery and Mary
Scott. Lunch was provided by
Jean Miller, Isobel Haskett,
Marie Lanphier, Eleanor Darling
and Edna Hodgins.
Ask riders
for pledges
All riders in the "Family Ride
for Cancer" are urged to get their
pledges in as soon as possible to
Elsie Gibson, Barbara Wraith or
Len Maslen. Over 150 residents of
the villages and township of
Biddulph took part in the ride
which was most gratifying to the
Branch Executive, A final figure
will be published as soon as all
pledges are in.
A vehicle driven by Donna
Walsh, Ailsa Craig collided with
a parked vehicle on Queen Street
in Ailsa Craig, Sunday at 1:15
a.m.
The parked car was owned by
Verna Forsyth, RR 5 London.
Constable Craig listed damages
at $2,500.
Only 15 minutes later, also in
Ailsa Craig, this time on Main
streeta similar accident occurred.
A pickup truck driven by
Daniel Hardy, RR 2, Lucan was
in collision with a parked car
owned by Earl Bennett, London.
Constable D.R. Vance estimated
damages at $1,250.
Saturday at 3:45 p.m. a vehicle
driven by Brenda Fenn, St.
Marys left County Road 27, just
south of County Road 16 in West
Nissouri township and struck the
ditch, Constable J.A. Wilson
listed damages at $400.
In a similar one vehicle
mishap, a vehicle driven by
Stephen Boon, London left
Concession Road 6 in London
township, west of Adelaide street
and rolled over. Damages were
set at $2,000 and Boon has been
charged with careless driving.
. Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. on
Concession 2 in West Nissouri
township, a mile north of County
Road 28, a pickup truck operated
by Brian Blight, RR 1 Thorndale
struck and killed a deer which
ran onto the road, Constable B.D.
Munro listed damages to the
front of the vehicle at $600.
Constable W.T. Hodgins listed
damages at $1,200 when a car
driven by Carl Clark, RR 3, St.
Marys collided with a pickup
truck driven by Glen Fox,
Granton on Highway 7 at the
Granton Road, Thursday at 11:45
p.m.
