The new president Mrs. Gwen Coward opened the meeting with a poem. The Opening Ode and Creed followed. The District annual will be held at Grand Bend May 19. Summary Day for the quilting course will be May 25 at Clinton. The regulations for the following year were made, Mrs. Shirley Cooper gave a report on the Officers Conference held at Waterloo University recently. The Agriculture and Canadian Industries committee of Mrs. Marie Brock and Mrs. Jean Lynn were in charge of the programme. Everyone joined in singing Darling Nellie Grey. Mrs. Brock gave a reading "Farm Life Foreign to City Girl." Mrs. Marjorie Johns presented the past president Mrs. Grace Pym with a gift in appreciation of her work the past two years. Mrs. Lynn introduced Mrs. Betsy Parkinson who showed pictures of a trip she and other Institute members enjoyed to the East Coast. Mrs. Brock thanked her and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Lynn closed the meeting with a reading "Song of the Welfare Farmer." Personals The quilting class met at the church Thursday evening to make final plans for Summary Day. Mrs. Gladys Skinner, Louise Browne, Elva Routly, Kaye Penhale, Blanche Johns, Mar- jorie Johns and Christine Traquair enjoyed a three day tour of Holland, Michigan over the weekend. The Kirkton Hor- ticulture Society had arranged the trip. Mrs. Mildred Crago and Richard Somers of St. Marys were Sunday visitors with Mr. Bill Routly. Mr. & Mrs. Russell Morley and Danny & Shari Morley visited Friday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Floyd Cooper and family. Margaret Pym, Donna Ker- slake and Joan Cooper are touring Quebec and Montreal this week with the grade eight class of Usborne Central School. S.W. McFalls, Lucan and Mrs. Thelma McGuire, Simcoe visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Routly. Mrs. Orin Willims, Prince Edward Island and Mrs. George Parker, Hensall visited recently with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Fulton recently attended the party for Mrs. Kathleen Hyde, Shakespeare who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Rannie and family of Brantford spent the weekend with Mr. Bill Routly. Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Webber visited several days with Mr. & Mrs. George Smith, Dearborn, Michigan. The Thames Road - Elimville annual C.G.I.T. banquet was held Tuesday at the Thames Rbad United Church. Following a bountiful meal, Mrs. Ann Kernick made a toast to the girls and Miss Denise Fletcher replied. Mary Johns toasted the mothers and was answered by Mrs. Margaret Stewart. Sheila Duncan thanked the ladies of Thames Road church for preparing the meal. Several sing By MRS. WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Mr. & Mrs. Ray Cottle, Exeter, Mr, & Mrs. Alex Rohde, Mitchell, Mr. & Mrs. Earl Bennewies and Wayne, Brodhagen and Mr. William Rohde were guests recently a t the Rohde-Szota wedding at St. Andrews United Church, Upper Paradise, Hamilton and the reception and dance at the Mount Hope Golf and Country Club. Mrs. William Rohde returned home last Wednesday night from University Hospital, London after having undergone surgery the week before. Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore were guests at the Traynor- Baynhamlwedding in London on Saturday. Mr. & Mrs. Ken Brazier and Cathy, Brantford, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Passmore. Mrs. Ross Hodgert was on the Kirkton Horticultural bus trip over the weekend to Holland, Michigan and Frankenmuth, Michigan. The sympathy of the com- munity is extended to Mr. & Mrs. Archie Etherington and Mr. & Mrs. Richard Etherington and families in the passing of their sister Alma, the late Mrs. Roberts of London, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Hughes, London were supper guests Sunday evening with Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller. Mr. & Mrs. Alex Rohde, Mit- chell, and Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Miller visited with Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde on Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Lee Webber celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary at the Pineridge Chalet Hensall on Saturday. Their day was May 16. evening with the girls giving their mystery mothers a gift. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Rick Parker on the birth of their son, Monday. • Mission and Service Sunday will be held on Sunday May 22, Films will be showns at 10 a.m. in conjunction with the Mission & Service.
