Prior to the reading of a poem the meeting opened by singing hymn "When Mothers of Salem" followed by prayer and the scripture reading taken by Kathleen Morley. Mrs. Marjorie Steeper gave a reading on "Mother's Day" and a poem "Old Time Sunday Sings" and Mrs, George Prest gave a poem "Mother" and reading on "For the Beauty of the Earth" followed by everyone singing the hymn. Reading, "Our Second Career" and a poem "Mother's Love" was given by Kathleen Morley. Mrs. Marjorie Steeper took over for the business with 13 ladies answering the roll call. Mrs. Jack Trevithil!k gave the treasurer report, Plans were made for the Regional dinner on May 12th in the church. Meeting closed by singing a hymn followed by prayer. Mrs. Steeper served lunch and a social time followed. Mother's Day Service was observed Sunday in the United Stewart and Kathy Cooper spent a few days in Quebec and Mon- treal for French. A large number attended the Spring Sing presented by students of Usborne Central School Wednesday afternoon and Thursday evening. A large crowd attended the Plant Seminar held by Unit 1 of Church with a large attendance. Junior choir rendered a number "Morning has Broken" Rev. Westhaver took as his text "Go Home and Tell." Jamie John Porter infant son of Mr. & Mrs. John Porter was baptized during the service. Mr. & Mrs. Don Newey, Colleen and Carol, Kingston, Miss Ruth Trevithick, Neil Trevithick and Marcia Lyons were weekend visitors with Mr, & Mrs. Jack Trevithick, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Morley, Mr. & Mrs, Bob Hodgins, Terry and April were Sunday evening dinner guests with Mr. & Mrs. Joe Durand and Adam. Ladies Guild of St. Mary's church held their meeting in the church basement Wednesday evening. Mrs. Ralph Rowe and Mrs. Murray Rowe were the hostesses. Scott Prest was baptized in Glencoe United Church on Sunday. Those attending the service were Mr. & Mrs. Bill Prest, Mr. & Mrst George Prest, and Cindy and Tim Jones. Mrs. Lois Whittard was home over the weekend with her father Cecil Ellwood. the U.C.W. Mrs. Joanne Dinney was the guest speaker, Elimville 4-H club held a meeting at the leadeii Miss Joan Kerslake Monday evening. The garments and books were completed and handed in. They finished making plans for Achievement Day May 28. Family Sunday was observed Sunday morning at Elimville United Church. Erin Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Dan Coward received the Sacrament of Baptism. Mr. & Mrs. Al McDonald, Owen Sound spent several days with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper. On Saturday evening Mr. & Mrs. Don Parsons, Donnie & Gary and Mr, & Mrs. Floyd Cooper, Nancy, Jones and Doug also visited. Mrs. Allan Somers and Mrs. Mildred Crago of St. Marys visited Wednesday afternoon with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Routly. Steven, Paul, David and Scott Fulton, Stratford spent a couple of days with their grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Fulton. Mr. & Mrs. Jake Hovius and Crystal, Miss Faye Blair and Miss Joan Kerslake visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Skinner and family. Mrs. Don Wilcox and family, Kitchener visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Routly. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Cooper were Mrs. Doug Johnston and family, Lucan, Mr. & Mrs, Roy Brock, Hensall, Mr. & Mrs. Don Kyle & boys, London and Mr. & Mrs. Al Townsend, Mitchell. The ladies in the community who are taking the Quilting Course, are reminded to bring their cushion and free choice articles to the final meeting a at 8 p,m. tonight May 12 at the Elimville hall. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREDITON The May meeting of the U.C.W. was a Mother-Daughter Banquet held Friday evening in the Sunday School rooms, Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner, assisted by her committee Mrs. Ward Fritz, Mrs. Douglas Gin, Mrs. Lloyd Lamport, was in charge of arrangements, and welcomed guests as they arrived. The banquet was prepared by the May lunch committee Mrs. Ed Hendrick, Mrs. Nelson Lamport, Mrs. Howard Light- foot, assisted by the leaders of the three work groups. After the guests had assem- bled, Mrs. Bruce Pierce offered prayer. Mrs. Gordon Ratz proposed a toast to the daughters to which Mary Schlenker replied. Mrs. Max Howard and Mrs. Carmin Schlenker, Kitchener, sang two duets and Miss Doris Schwartz a solo, honouring mothers, Mrs. Gordon Fink- beiner accompanied the singing. Mrs. Gill read Beatitudes for Mothers, and Mrs. Fritz the story of Lydia from the Scriptures. Guest speaker was Miss Anne Reuber of the Secondary School Teaching Staff, Stratford. Miss Reuber, recently returned from three and a half years of teaching under the United Church Board of Missions in Japan, told of the frustration of six months of language study and of the challenge of adaptation to a different culture. Mrs. Lloyd Lamport thanked the speaker. Certain guests received special recognition. Those who received gifts were Mrs. Doug Lightfoot and Mrs. Emerson Wein for having a birthday close to May 6, Mrs. Margaret Clarke for being the guest with the most great grandchildren. Show film Saturday evening the film Thief in the Night was shown in Zion United Church Sunday School under the sponsorship of the Young People's group. People came from Grand Bend, Zurich, Exeter and the Mt, Carmel area to view the picture. Members of the Youth Group acted as ushers. Sunday morning at Zion United Church the Exeter United Church Junior Choir presented in song and story the experience of the son of the tax collector Zac- chaeus. Frustrated by being Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Schenk and Lori Lynne attended the bap- tismal service in Zurich United Church to honour with their presence Christian, son of Mr. & Mrs. Don Schenk. Sunday's strong wind blew clouds of duest from parched fields, and damaged some roofs.
