The health boards of Huron and
Perth counties have formed a
joint committee to discuss
possible amalgamation of their
health units.
Huron County medical health
officer Dr, Frank Mills said
Friday the committee, which will
include three members of the
boards as well as the MOH from
each county, was suggested at a
recent meeting with Perth
District Health Unit.
Creation of the joint committee
was spurred by provincial health
ministry proposals which would
see the government abolish
county boards of health and units
and replace them with larger
bodies with expanded respon-
sibilities, Mills said.
He said the proposals will be
included in : a new health
protection act the government
likely will introduce early next
year.
"If it is passed in its present
form we would be looking at an
amalgamated health unit,
created by a ministry directive, "
Mills said.:

A Huron-Perth district health
council has not yet been formed
but it is expected a steering
committee looking into its
creation will recommend one be
set up. The committee report is
expected sometime in June.,
The working paper suggested
the Middlesex-London, Elgin-St.
Thomas, and Oxford county
health boards be lumped into one
health board serving 445,000
people.
Bruce and Grey counties would
be put into another with Owen
Sound to look after about 116,000

Kent-Chatham and Lambton

Rodeo
Continued from front page
The local rodeo group will have
sole sponsorship of the dance
which willbe held on the Saturday
night and it is hoped the
auditorium of the new rec centre
will be completed in time.
The only event to be staged by
the Exeter group will be the very
popular Little Britches calf
riding contest.
During program discussion,
director Jim Scott said, "Little
Britches is a must. We always
have good participation by local
youngsters."
Dalt Finkbeiner said the club
was fortunate in getting sanction
for the rodeo on August 6 and 7,
He added, "We are also furtunate
that we will not be conflicting with
any other rodeos on those dates in
Ontario, New York or Michigan.
Secretary Jack Malone and
director Dalt Finkbeiner said
they have been assured by
Exeter Mayor Bruce Sahw, who
is a member of the Rec Centre
management committee that his
group would give all the support
possible.
Malone suggested that
proceeds for the rodeo be used for
a specific purpose at the Rec
Centre, probable for furniture for
the auditoruum,

Thursday's meeting were Brad
Mousseau, Ned Ryan, Norm
Whiting and Tom Yellow.

The government proposal was
outlined in a health ministry
working paper distributed to
health boards for discussion in
late 1976.
It suggests the boards and units
now in the region be abolished
and replaced with bodies called
community health service boards
which would cover roughly the
same area as district health
councils.
It suggests the new boards be
responsible for at least 100,000
people. The Huron-Perth board
would look after about 117,000.
