Youth meeting
The Youth of Dashwood held
their meeting Sunday May 1 with
the Alethia singers from Exeter
as special guests. An evening of
singing and of sharing ex-
periences was very successful. A
few adults turned out to share the
evening.
L.W.M.L. meeting
The quarterly Lutheran
Women's Missionary League
meeting of Zion Lutheran church
vas held April 27.
Mrs. Delmar Miller took the
:opic, "You're just the right
ige". It was pointed out that no
natter what age you are there is
place in the church for you.
Plans were made for hosting
he zone Rally May 9. Dominion
The Huronia Singers will be
presenting Dr. Geoffrey
Beaumont's FolkMass in Hensall
United Church and Lucan Holy
Trinity Anglican Church on May
8 and 15 respectively beginning at
7:30 p.m. both evenings.
This musical presentation
presents quite a change of pace
for the Singers and brings a
totally unique concept of music
into the area.
The Mass is actually a fully
structured church service but the
vocal presentation is a radical
departure from the "standard"
type of church music. Although
not a true jazz styling there are
times when it sounds to be so.
Moving from Beguine tempos
to Waltzes, it runs a gamut of
musical expression that provides
a startling and vivid contrast
with the completely traditional
chanting presented by the Priest.
Reverend G. Johnson of
Ilderton is chanting the Priest's
role, with the role of the Cantor
being sung by Doug Mock,
Hensall, Mrs. Maxine Sereda and
store slips and used stamps are
still needed.
Mrs. Siegfried Miller, Port
Dover, was a visitor last week
with Mrs. Martha Miller.
Master Jordon Guy, Denfield,
spent a few days last week with
his grandparents, Pastor and
Mrs. Bruce Guy.
Mrs. Cora Gaiser returned
home Sunday after spending two
weeks with Rev. & Mrs. Bruce
Seebach and family, Kitchener.
Mr. & Mrs. Eric Eagleson and
family, Little Current,
Manitoulin Island, spent a few
days with Mr. & Mrs. Ralph
Weber,
Mr. & Mrs. Eric Wolfe and
family, London, spent Sunday
with Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Wolfe.
Mrs. Henry Eagleson also spent a
few days with them.
Mrs. Vernon Schatz has
returned home following three
months in South Huron and
University hospitals.
Mrs. Jim Patterson, Sarah and
Jeffery, Grand Bend, were
Wednesday visitors with Mrs.
Irvin Rader.
Donna Regier was a weekend
visitor with Andrea Zimmer,
Tracey Case, Crediton, spent
the weekend with Heather Rader.
Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader spent
Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd
Rader. In the evening they all
visited at Zurich with Mr. & Mrs.
Leonard Prang. Leonard has just
returned home from St. Joseph's
Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey are
also soloists.
Dr. Beaumont, an Anglican
minister, wrote the Mass in the
early 1950s when he became
concerned that little was being
done to provide new approaches
to sacred music. His writings of
sacred music are numerous and
he has given many new and
exciting melodies td well-known
traditional hymns.
On the upcoming programs
Huronia director Marianne
McCaffrey comments, "We have
tried, over the years, to present
as wide a variety of music to the
community as possible, but this is
our first venture into this style of
presentation. Ralph (Dr. R.
Topp, who accompanies the
choir) introduced me to it. He had
played for it to be sung when he
was in Guelph, and I found that
the more I heard it the more I
liked it and wanted other people
to hear it. It's very unusual and
exciting and I'm sure will provide
an enjoyable evening for
everyone."
"It definitely requires the
structure of a church, so we are
not giving our usual type of
'concert' in the high school, but it
is still very much an evening of
fine music in a new type of
'concert' idiom," she concluded.
