Cut down Diane Durnin, Vanastra Recreation Director, told members of council she did not think the same summer playground program should be carried on this year as last two years. She suggested it be cut down this year as the children come out in large numbers at the beginning and then most of them lose interest and drop out. Last summer the recreation department lost $1,000 when the grant was only two-thirds of the first year grant and this year with it cut down to one-third it was more than likely $2,000 deficit could be incurred, she stated. Council agreed to the reduced program, Mrs, Durnin said the wading pool was full of leaves, broken bottles and other debris and requested permission to hire someone to clean it up. She was told to contact someone with a truck to do the work, Mrs. Durnin reported the recreation centre was booked solid for the rest of the year with only the odd day available for renting. Council reported the survey on fire protection in the township being made by Donald Owens of the Ontario fire Marshal's office would not be completed and ready for reporting until the end of May. Mr. Owens said he was involved with another assign- ment by his office which resulted in the postsponement of the Tuckersmith report. Council endorsed a resolution from the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority petitioning against a new safety regulation requiring all chain saws now in operation to be equipped with anti-vibration devices and chain breaks. While agreeing with the need for safety, council was concerned that many saws, even a newly purchased one, may be obsolete as the required safety devices could not be attached to them. Deputy reeve Robert Bell vas named to represent the township on the Court of Revision for the IVIousseau Back Creek drain. {Hay Township drain) which will be held May 9 in Zurich. Council will hold a special meeting at Vanastra 'on Tuesday to meet with the Vanastra Recreation Committee to answer questions and discuss problems the ratepayers at Vanastra are concerned about. The meeting has been requested by Ben Bridges, president of the association.
