Damage amounted to $5,700 in
three accidents investigated by
the Exeter OPP this week and
three people sustained injuries.
All three collisions involved only
one vehicle,
Most seriously injured was
Darryl Alexander, RR 2, Zurich,
whose vehicle went out of control
on County Road 2 on Wednesday.
His vehicle hit a fence and rolled
over twice.
Alexander was taken to St.
Joseph's Hospital in London with
major injuries.
The accident happened about
one mile south of Highway 84 and
damage was estimated at $1,600
by Constable Bob Whiteford.
About 100 feet of fence on the
property of Bill. Livingstone was
damaged in the crash.
In another accident on Wed-
nesday, Gary J. Rose, Dublin,
lost control of his vehicle on '
Bill Smith, of Northlander
Homes, Exeter, has returned
home optomistically from last
week's three-day Canadian
Mobile Home Association
(CMHA) conference in Ottawa.
The conference dealt with
problems facing the faltering
mobile home industry.
The industry's difficulties have
been in the areas of acquisition of
land and financing for the mobile
home. Mobile homes qualify for
consumer loans at rates of more
than 13.5 percent for a maximum
of 15 years while the Assisted
Home. Ownership Plan. (AHOP)
mortgages can be as low as eight
percent and are spread over 25 or
more years. The mobile home
won't qualify for the AHOP
mortgages because they are not
considered homes. Municipalities
label mobile homes as transient,
second class housing and
therefore limits the land
available because of zoning.
Smith was confident that the

The Exeter Legion Ladies
Auxiliary to Branch 167 held their
annual invitational bowling
tournament at the Exeter
Bowling Lanes on April 13 with 20
teams participating.
Prizes were awarded to the top
four teams, and placing first was
a team from Clinton with a score
of 2844; second, Petrolia, 2801;
third, Exeter, 2796 and fourth
Kincardine, 2780.
High triple for the day was won
by Peg Hunter-Duvar, Exeter
with a score of 704; with Shirley
Smith, Exeter in runner-up spot
with a 690; high single went to
Thelma Coombs, Seaforth with
a 306; runner-up being-Rosemary
Armstrong, Clinton, 278.
A team from Goderich won the
mystery draw prize. During the
afternoon the ladies played bingo
at the Legion Hall, followed by a
delicious smorgasbord after
which a draw for door prizes took
place. These gifts were
generously donated by several
merchants in Exeter,
During the next few weeks the
Exeter Ladies will be attending
bowling tournaments being held
in Seaforth and Strathroy.
Two teams from Exeter
competed in the regional tour-
nament held in Waterloo and one
team was successful in placing
sixth out of 40 teams and will
travel to Brockville, May 14 for
the Provincial Finals.
Team members are Barb
Hearn, Peg Hunter-Duvar,
Gladys Bierling, Dorothy
Reynolds, Grace Farquhar and
Terry Heywood.
County Road 11 in Usborne
Towhship and it went into a ditch
and rolled over.
Minor injuries were sustained
by a passenger, Peter Maloney,
also of Dublin.
Constable Jack Straughan
investigated and estimated
damage at $3,000.
The other accident occurred on
Saturday when a vehicle driven
by Charles Lince, RR 1,
Brucefield went out of control on
County Road 6 in Stephen
Township, Damage was set at
$1,075 by Constable Wally
Tomasik.
Lince suffered minor injuries.
During the week, the local
detachment officers laid a total of
62 charges. There were 14 under
the Criminal Code, 31 under the
Highway Traffic Act, 16 under
the Liquor Licence Act and one
under the Narcotic Control Act.
conference would bring about
changes and that the changes
would come because the only
thing holding them back was a
matter of acceptance, "The
mobile home has moved up the
acceptance scale...people are
convinced, you just have to
convince the legislators."
The Ottawa CMHA meeting has
produced a task force made up of
three federal representatives and
three industrial representatives
,including a member of the CSA.
The joint industry-government
team will try to have solutions to
the mobile home industries'
-,problems within 90 days,
.Urban Affairs Minister Andre
Ouellet has already promised the
development of 2,000 sites for
mobile homes across the country.
The CMHA also sent a brief to
Premier William Davis regar-
ding the importation of non-CSA
approved American units.
Between 1972 and 1976 about 6,373
American units, mostly not
certified, were sold in the
province constituting 41 percent
of the Ontario market. The
CMHA would like restrictions of
imports to only those units which
are certified.
Smith said that the economic
situation as it effects the industry
has had little effect as far as
Northlander is concerned. The
plant employs 40 people and
produces one unit per day.
However, he advised that the
situation has had a negative
effect on larger producers.
Two thefts were also in-
vestigated, one involving about
$50 worth of tools owned by Carf
Cann, Exeter. The tools were
stolen from a vacant house in
Stephen Township.
The other theft involved about
$400 worth of piping and elec-
trical conduit from the old
theatre building at Huron Park,
The building is being dismantled.
Charges have been laid by
Constable Bill McIntyre as a
result of his investigation into the
December 23 theft of a quantity of
liquor from the Crediton Hall. A
youth from St. Marys and a
Huron Park man have been
charged,
Constables Don Mason and
Jack Straughan are continuing
their investigation into a number
of thefts in the Huron Park area
over the past year. The loot in-
cludes primarily industrial and
road signs. Juveniles are in-
volv.d in the investigation.
The OPP have a five-speed
girl's bicycle in their possession
and the owner may claim same
by identifying it. It was found in
Huron Park.
