Grand Bend may have a by-law
enforcement officer this sum-
mer. Les Mayhew of Grand Bend
attended the council meeting
Monday night to express his
interest in the position and find
out exactly what kind of en-
forcement the council had in
mind.

Reeve Sharen replied council is
not certain exactly what would be
expected of a by-law enforcement
officer as the village must have
the full co-operation of the OPP
stationed in the village for the
summer for the plan to work,
"Basically we would pay X
number of dollars and you would
be on call," explained the reeve.
"You would have to know the by-
laws well and you would likely be
dealing mostly with noise
complaints and parking of-
fences,"
Reeve Sharen added the
council would not expect a by-law
enforcement officer to go out in
the middle of the night if he
received a complaint of noise,
Instead he should visit the
establishment the following
morning to give them a warning
and then perhaps make a spot
check for a few days after.
Before any final decisions are
made council feels it is im-
perative they discuss this with
the OPP constable who will be in
charge of the 28 officers being
assigned to Grand Bend for
summer duty this year.
"We must have the complete
co-operation of the OPP on this
thing to make it work," said
Reeve Sharen.
