Dennis Mathers, proprietor of the Cheryl Anne, said this was one of the busiest long Easter weekends he has had in several years. "Every year it seems to get better and it is a good crowd of people we seem to be attracting back to Grand Bend," he remarked. Then he added, "Friday was my busiest day, they were three deep the whole length of the counter." Mr. Mathers has completely renovated the Charyl Anne over the winter and is in the process of pouring a patio for his customers' use. Another seasonal hot dog stand in Grand Bend is a rather new place called Happy Days. It opened last season and is already' busy this season as it also has a patio, Jack and Din's reported busines"s was good and on Monday throngs of visitors to the village toured up and down the main street in their summer hats, shorts, cutoffs and halter tops. During the weekend the beach itself was cool and windy but that didn't stop the children from donning jackets to build their first sand castle of the year or prevent parents from lying back on the cool sand and catching a few rays on their faces and arms at least. For those with shopping in mind, two seasonal shops added their wares to the year-round operations as the Sun Shop and Peek and Seek were open for the weekend. The weather was pleasant, but it may have been one reason the bars in towns were very busy as sitting on the beach was cool and a brew was refreshing. One of the seasonal bars, Kellys, was not open over the weekend as they , are making some renovations. Lambton County Health Inspector Gord Anderson said he has made one inspection of the premises and will reinspect before they are given the go-ahead to open. A representative for Kellys, Pete Lane, said they expect the hotel will be open by this Friday night. It is shaping up to be a good spring for the village and if the summer is as warm as the winter was cold, the summer should be a great one.
