Don Beck. His Communion Meditation was "Do This in Remembrance of Me" reminding us that Communion was the first Sacrament instituted by Jesus. The choir, led by Mrs., John Turkheim at the organ, sang the anthem, "My Saviour went to Calvary", On Easter Sunday morning, a Sunrise service was held at 6:30 a.m. conducted by the Young People of the congregation with Karen McAllister giving the Meditation, She retold the Easter story and also told of Easter customs in other lands, Kevin Wareing led the service with Karen, John Blackwell assisted at the organ and Laurie, Mailynb and Joanne Pepper sang "Morning has Broken" very sweetly, assisted at the piano by Brenda Pepper. Following the service around one hundred people assembled in the Fellowship Hall for breakfast, At the regular service, Rev. Don Beck took as his sermon theme, "What a Way to Live" stressing that "Morning always comes" both in the world and in our personal lives. An inspiring anthem "King All Glorious" was sung by the choir with Miss Mary Goodwin taking the solo. Lilies in the church were in memory of the late Mr. & Mrs. Victor Fee and a white potted mum was lovingly placed by the family of the late Archie Noakes in his memory. Church ladies mark Easter At the Easter meeting of the W,M.S. of Carmel Presbyterian Church held on Monday, March 4, Mrs. Mac Dougall spoke about the work of a missionary, Lucia M. Baker, and also on Friend- ship. Mrs. Harvey Hyde, president, presided and ten members were present. Offering and "The Least Coin" collection were dedicated and the roll call taken. An invitation to attend the meeting at Seaforth on April 21 was read and accepted. Mrs. Hugh Jack of Hamilton will be the guest speaker. The Synodical is to be held in Knox Presbyterian Church on April 12 and 13. It is hoped that as many members as possible will attend. This month the W.M.S. will entertain at the Queensway Nursing Home and more ladies are asked to come out on Monday afternoons to help at the Nursing Home. The meeting was closed with the Lord's Prayer. Cleric's son writes book Mr. Trevor Ferguson of Montreal, son of Rev. P. A. Ferguson of Chesley, and a former minister of Hensall Presbyterian Church, has had a book published by McMillan and Company, "High Water Charts in the Fall". This book was reviewed by the Canada Council and Mr. Ferguson received a grant of $8,000. Mr. Ferguson has already started on a second book. Pmkuta14 Mr. & Mrs, Dick Taylor returned home after spending the past three months at Winter Haven, Florida. Mrs. Wil Beck is home after having been a patient in University Hospital since a car accident last January. Supply at the Hensall Sales Barn consisted mainly of heifers and steers, demand was active and prices were higher. Fat cattle: heifers, $37.00-$38.50, top to $42.50, Steers, $41.00-$43.50, top to $44.00. Pigs: weanlings $35.00- $43,00, chunks $44,50-$54.00. Rev. Ferguson of Chesley who suffered a heart attack in October is now able to resume his former duties. Bruce Moir is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London where he underwent surgery last week. Mr. & Mrs, Michael Hoy, Alyson and Aaron of London and Mr. Bill Hoy Of Connestoga College, Stratford, spent the Easter weekend with their parents Mr, & Mrs, Harry Hoy. Aaron will be staying on for a holiday with his grandparents. Mr, & Mrs. J. Skea, Colin and Karen of Brampton and Mr. & Mrs. Randy Mason and Andrew of Huron Park visited with their parents On Saturday. Mrs. Peter Biaback has un- dergone surgery in Seaforth Community Hospital, Rev. W. D. Jarvis conducted Worship in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The sermon was entitled "The Risen Lord Still Lives." MisS Brenda Pepper at the organ led the choir in singing "The Old Rugged Cross." By KATHY COOPER ELIMVILLE A shower was held Thursday evening at the Elimville United Church in honor of Miss Barbara Johns. Miss Gail Parsons read the address. Miss Denise Flet- cher, Miss Pam Coward placed the bows on a rake, while Miss Elaine Pym and Miss Kathy Cooper placed her gifts on the table. Mrs. Grace Pym read several poems and Miss Pam Coward led them in a game. The ladies served lunch. The Young Peoples of Thames Road and Elimville held a Sunrise Service at the Thames Road United Church. Rev. Barry Robinson led the young people in their service. Church held their April meeting in the parish hall Wednesday afternoon with 10 members present. A film on the work of the Anglican Church in Baffin Island was shown and proved to be both educational and enjoyable. The year's activities were discussed. Plans were completed for the dessert euchre which was held last evening, April 13. It was decided to hold a strawberry supper on June 22 and a bazaar in October, Lunch was served by Gertie Hodgins and Adelle Mitchell. Sixteen members of the United Church Women gathered at the home of Evelyn Curts for their April' meeting. Mrs. Harold Brophey led in worship and study and Mrs. Jacob Lagerwerf pro- vided refreshments following the meeting, Mrs. J. W. Horner reported that the renovations to the bathroom at the manse had been completed. The Committee of Stewards of the United Church met recently and presented their estimated budget to the congregation at the Sunday morning service. This calls for an increase in expenses of $1500 for the current year. Of interest and concern to this community are the deaths during this past week of Mrs.' Mary Gould, Strathroy, mother of Mrs. George Dixon; William Young, Chatham, husband of the former "Matt" Stewardson; and Mrs. Hazel Smith, Grand Bend, sister of Mrs. Lawrence Curts. Mrs. Gordon Woodburn is a patient in St, Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Milton Woodburn were guests at their grandson's wedding held in Komoka Presbyterian Church on Good Friday. Wilbert Thompson and Kathy Kilborne are now Mr, and Mrs. Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Clarke, London, renewed friendships here Saturday. Mr, & Mrs. Millan Srnirle, Morewood, Ontario, were Easter visitors with Mr. & Mrs. R. S. English. The ladies are sisters., Mr, & Mrs. Stuart Bullock, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. W. This is the Annual meeting and features the election of officers and reports in triplicate of the Standing Com- mittees. It will also feature fun night and the unmasking of the "Secret Pals." Mrs. Robert Bell and Mrs. Grant MacLean are in charge. Mrs. Vern Alderdice has the motto and Mrs. Alex McGregor the current events. They returned by way of North Carolina and the mountains and report spring flowers in bloom and corn three inches high.
