Mrs. Mary Fisher District Deputy President of Huron District number 23 made her official visit to the Lodge. Mrs, Iva Reid gave a report of the sports announcing Bowling tournaments, etc., coming up in the future. A penny sale will be held with the draw to be made June 3. Mrs. Iva Reid presented the Zone Commander with a gift. The mystery prize was won by Joan Beierling. The guessing prize was won by Hilda Smale and Margaret McDonald won the attendance prize. Reeve Harold Knight said even a small increase in Council budget next year, when coupled with the education tax levy, could mean an increase of up to 20 mills in taxes for village residents. in other business at the meeting, Council approved a budget of $29,511 for the Hensall Parks Board. On Easter Sunday, they were guests with Mr. & Mrs. Don Dodds and family of Seaforth. Jack Smith is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mrs. Jake Hovius is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter where she is receiving treatment. Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and Mrs. Ida Diehl, Seaforth attended a seminar at the O.H.A. Centre, Don Mills last week. $10,757.96 is to be granted by the municipality. Councillor Nellands said the budget represented no increase over that of last year. Adrian. Bayley, of Bayley Brothers Limited, was present at the meeting to ask Council's approval for an office trailer to be placed on the West side of the Agripress building. Reeve Knight told Mr. Bayley the village must conform to the regulations of the Huron County Plan, which says that mobile homes may only be placed in designated trailer parks. After lengthy discussion, Council approved a motion allowing Mr, Bayley to place the trailer beside his building tem- porarily, approval being granted , until January 1, 1978. Council voted to send a letter to the Minstry of the Environment and to the Ministry of Tran- sportation and Communication, asking that the government look into the need for resurfacing both highway 4 and 84 in the village. Council felt both roads had been neglected, and were badly in need of repair, Gary Robinson, of Aylmer, has been granted permission to clean storm sewer catch basins in the village using a vacuum truck, at a cost not to exceed $40iper hour. Council again raised the question of by-law enforcement for the village. Councillor Harry Klungel suggested that if a third man was necessary when the new arena is completed, he could be hired with the understanding that his duties would include by-law enforcement. No action Was taken on this suggestion. Building permits were ap- proved for the Hensall Medical Centre, Wayne Smith, Pat O'Brien and Lorne Gackstetter. Jeff Carroll, of Bayley Brothers, is to send a letter ad- vising Council of his proposed use of the stage area of the Town Hall. Arena fund raising committee member Harry Klungel told Council a canvass of local businessmen is to begin this week. Accounts in the amount of $13,354,06 were approved for payment at the Monday meeting. The District Deputy President Mrs. Fisher gave an interesting address on the founding of Oddfellowship, and the Golden Rule and the origin of the "Praying Hands" and how it applies to our order. Mrs. Maggie Campbell thanked Mrs, Fisher. Mrs. Bernice Ford, Exeter brought greetings from Pride of Huron Lodge. Mrs, Olga Chipchase spoke on the "Brother's Evening" they at- tended at Parkhill. Following a penny sale refresh- ments were served and a social hour enjoyed by all. 4-H GIRLS MEET The second meeting of the Hensall 2, the "Sew and Sews, was held at the home of Diane Gerstenkorn's on April 4 . The members opened the meeting with the 411 Pledge. The girls took as their roll call to show their fabric, pattern and trim, men- tioning fabric content and care. After that the girls had a discussion about the procedures of laying out the pattern. Mrs. Gerstenkorn demonstrated how to alter shoulders on a piece of paper and how to alter pants, The girls found this very in- teresting. 4-H News The third meeting of the Bedtime Beauties, (Hensall 2) 4- H Club was held at the United Church On Tuesday, April 5, The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge and the roll call, "One thing to remember when cutting and marking fabric, make sure your grain is straig.ht," Minutes were read by Sandra Nixon and approved by Janice Campbell, We discussed the grain of material and the grain line of pattern, Mrs, Pepper and Mrs, Fuss shOwed us different types of 8titches.
