Four teams were entered in the
event staged at the Zurich arena
and the home crew posted a 5-1
win over Grand Bend to enter the
"A" final against Goderich, who
disposed of Blyth by a 2-0 verdict
in the first round,
Paul Bedard got Zurich off on
the right foot in the final game
when he blinked the light twice in
the first period and they were
never headed after that.
Goals by Jeff Smith and Steve
Consitt upped Zurich's lead to 4.0
before Goderich managed to beat
Marty Merner to get on the score
board in the middle frame,
Goderich scored twice in the
final period, while Mark Johnston
added a single for Zurich to make
the final score 5-3 for Zurich.
Coach Bob Merner indicated he
was pleasantly surprised at his
team's showing against
Goderich. He had watched
Goderich beat Blyth in the opener
and didn't think his kids had
much chance against the county
town squad.
"But, they sure played a great
game," he said after the victory
and trophy presentations.
The Zurich team had earlier
won a trophy at the Bayfield
novice tournament.
In Friday's opener against
Grand Bend, five players shared
in the scoring as Zurich posted
the 5-1 verdict. The scorers were
Mark Johnston, Jeff Smith,
Aaron Bullock, Steve Consitt and
Greg Overholt.
Overholt also picked up two
assists, with others going to Mark
Clausius, Paul Bedard, Mark
Johnston, Scott Willert and Jeff
Hoffman.

over Goderich were Aaron

Thiel, Robby Dickert and Steve
Consitt,
Paul Bedard was chosen as
Zurich's most valuable player in
the final game,

in their two contests, they put on
a good display for their fans.
Nate Balaisis scored their only
goal against Zurich, while Buddy
Richardson scored three in their
7-4 loss to Blyth in the "B"
Championship.
Jim Ansley scored the other
Grand Bend 'goal in that contest,
