Expect report
next week
The recent survey on
recreation activities and
facilities in Stephen township is
expected to be ready and
presented to council for their
regular meeting of April 19.
Former Exeter recreation
director Jim McKinlay who is co-
ordinating the study said he is
completing his written report this
week.
He told the T-A Monday, "I
have gathered all the facts except
financial data from the Ontario
Development Corporation and I
expect to receive it in the next
few days."
The recreation survey was
financed by the Ontario Ministry
of Culture and Recreation with
the co-operation of Stephen
township, the Huron County
development committee and
ODC along with input from
Stephen residents through four
open meetings.
Residents from all parts of the
township seemed to be in
agreement at all meetings that
the main need was for a
municipality-wide recreation
committee. This is expected to be
one of McKinlay's main
recommendations.
Fire protection
Continued from front page.
He noted that between 70 and
80 percent of the total PUC plant
installation can be assessed to
fire protection in a community
this size. That percentage
reduces in larger communities.
Davis explained that most
water customers could be amply
served with two-inch mains, but
the PUC instal mains from six to
eight inches "at considerable
added expense" to provide
enough water for fire protection.
