Board sticks to its policy The Huron County Board of Education stuck by its guns. Monday afternoon and refused to entertain thoughts of allowing a Woodham couple's daughter early admission into kin- dergarten, The board received a letter from Mr. & Mrs. L. Taylor of RR 1, Woodham, asking that the board allow a child to enter kindergarten although her bir- thday is three days after the board's December 31 deadline in the year of enrolment, The couple asked for special consideration claiming their problem was more severe than most parents, The child in question was born January 3, 1973 and another child was born to them December 4, 1973. The couple point out that the timing means that the children will attend the same school, in .the same class, with the same teacher. The parensts feel that the situation will "cause a very in- tense competition between the two", They admit that a little competition never hurt anyone but feel that this scale may cause "very serious problems not only at school but at home." Clinton trustee Dorothy Williams said the situation could be an advantage to the children recalling an instance in Clinton where two children helped each other out both at home and in school. Goderich trustee Cayley Hill, who is the father of triplets, said he didn't think there would be any problems with two kids from the same family in one class. "Or three," said Colborne trustee Shirley Hazlitt. "As you well know," said Hill, Superintendant of education Bob Allan said that if the parents felt very strongly on the subject they could send the children to different schools as an alter- native. He said there are two schools that could be attended by the children adding, that busing may be a problem but that it would be their problem. SUPPORT :#6
