EASTER CANDY & CARDS 433 Main St. Exeter 235-1661 It's a sea of mud By JOY SCHEIFELE AILSA CRAIG A proverbial sea of mud has temporarily stalled excavations of the new reservoir and pumping station being built near Ailsa Craig by the Lake Huron Water Supply System. The new pumping station and reservoir is part of the existing line running from Grand Bend to Arva which supplies London and area with water from Lake Huron, The new pumping station will increase capacity of the pumps which will be needed as more demands are made upon the water supply. Excavations began early last January and with the coming of the warmer spring weather which has caused deep mud, the excavations have temporarily ceased until the land dries suf- ficiently for the heavy equipment to operate once more. Engineer Gord Clydsdale reports, "We hope it will be possible to begin again shortly". Excavations are very close to being completed on the reservoir and then con- struction can begin. Two pumps at least will be included in the pumping station which will pump some 25 million gallons per day. "We don't anticipate having these going full time at the start", Mr. Clydsdale clarified. "At first these will be used only when required during peak times. In later years they will become fully operational", The station will be unmanned Alvin Roth at Holy Week Community Holy Week Ser- vices are being held in the Ailsa Craig United Church this week, on Wednesday, Thursday and Good Friday. The services are sponsored by the Ailsa Craig Ministerial Association and all in the area are welcome to attend. The Thursday evening service will be a Concimunity Holy Communion. Guest speaker this year is the Rev. Alvin N. Roth, of London. In May 1948, Alvin Roth moved from the Wellesley area, west of Waterloo, Ontario where he was farming, to the Ailsa Craig area to settle with his family. Here he farmed for two and a half years. In January, 1951, the Nairn Mennonite congregation pur- chased a house in London to establish the Goodwill Rescue Mission and Mr. Roth was placed in charge. The work grew and became part of the. Inter-Mennonite Mission Board work and developed into Mission Services of London. The variety of com- munity services grew under the spiritual leadership of guidance of its Director to provide further rehabilitation work experiences for those in Mission Services of London. In 1976, Mr. Roth retired from Mission Services of London and is now employed part-time by the Coalition for Development in S.W. Ontario. The Coalition is a co-operative, interdenominati- onal effort to identify social action needs in the community. He is also part-time with the Inter-Mennonite Mission Service Board to encourage House Churches in London, as a non- denominational ministry. His theme for the Holy Week Services is "Love — Love of self, Love of Neighbour and Love of God". To add to the Easter celebrations, the Nairn Men- nonite Choir is planning to present the musical, "Come Together" in the Ailsa Craig Community Centre on Easter evening at 8:30 p.m. to which all in the area are invited, Missionary will speak Sunday evening, April 10, the Ailsa Craig Baptist Church will have Eleanor P.
