THWARTED AGAIN — Exeter midgets were thwarted on this scoring
play when the Listowel netminder moved out of his net to smother a loose
puck. Arriving too late to get the puck away from him are Exeter's Randy
Parsons (9) and Dave Bogart.
The Federal Highway Ad-
ministration is going in for
rubber roads — there are
demonstration projects using
granulated tire rubber in
repaving asphalt. Costs more
than plain asphalt, but the
finished surface is said to be
less brittle and longer lasting.

Cutting your speed from 70 to
50 MPH won't cost you much
time, but it will SAVE 23 per-
cent on fuel.

The refrigerant in your car's
air conditioner acts to cool the
evaporator and absorb heat
while it is boiling.

If there's a slight leak in the ,.
gas tank, it can be repaired
temporarily with soap. Have
the leak soldered or the tank
replaced as soon as possible.

If your engine is burning oil,
an auxiliary-gap plug may
give you greater anti-fouling
protection. See an expert.

It new plugs don't do the trick, it may
be time to turn in that old oil-burner
for a new model. Come test drive the

'Midgets thwarted in OMHA championship bid,
clipped 7-5 by Listowel in deciding contest
position and after being held to a
1.1 tie in the first period, they
scored three in a row in the first
eight minutes of the middle
frame.
Exeter finally caught fire in the
last five minutes of that stanza to
score three of their own to knot
the count at 4-4 at the end of the
second and local fans felt their
squad had the momentum to keep
going in the third.
But, it was Listowel that broke
the tie at the 4:32 mark and they
upped their lead to 6-4 only four
minutes later,
Exeter whittled the lead to a
single goal with four minutes
remaining in the game and
continued to press, but couldn't
get the equalizer.
Roger O'Brien was lifted for an
extra attacker in the final minute
and Listowel scored the in-
surance marker with 12 seconds
left on the clock.
Murray Kerr was the big gun
for Listowel, scoring four of his
team's goals and a natural hat-
trick with three successful shots
in a row in the middle period. The
Exeter defenders just couldn't
keep him tied up in the slot and he
scored two of his goals with no one
around to help O'Brien.
An indication of the lack of
hitting by the Exeter crew was
the fact they took only four
penalties. They had double that
.amount in their victories when
they used their bodies to ad-
vantage to slow down the
Listowel attack.
Both teams scored two goals on
power plays.
Perry Pooley paced the Exeter
attack with two goals, while
singles came off the sticks of
Randy Parsons, Brad Taylor and
Paul Pooley.
Brian Mercer picked up three
assists to lead in that departr
merit, while Paul Pooley had a
pair, Randy Fisher and Perry
Pooley helped on one each.
Listowel will now meet Alliston
for the Ontario championship.
Members of Exeter's semi-
final squad are: Roger O'Brien,
Steve Wells, Doug Hoffman,
Darrell Preszcator, Ron Bilcke,
Paul Pooley, Randy Parsons,
Dave Bogart, Brad Taylor,
Preston Dearing, Paul
VanGerwen, Brian Mercer, Dave
Atthill, Randy Fisher, Dennis
Preszcator, Dave Cann and
Perry Pooley. Ray Brooks and
Jim Pfaff handled the coaching
duties and Bob Pooley was the
manager.
GAME NOTES: Exeter hit at
least three posts in the game,
coming just a fraction of an inch
from sending them into the
final.„.a strong contingent of
fans was on hand from Exeter,
many of them waving banners
prepared by some of the sup-
vorters....several players on the
Listowel team will now be
seeking their second consecutive
title, having won an Ontario
championship as bantams last
season. One of their victims then
was Exeter's entry...their
current bantam team is also in
the finals against Gravenhurst.
crew had been members of the
Exeter pee wees and bantams
when they won Ontario titles in
1973 and 1975, but the third honor
eluded them,
!,`They just didn't want it badly
enough to work hard enough for
it," commented manager Bob
Pooley as he stepped on the bus
following the Listowel defeat.
After dropping the first two
game with sluggish play, the
Exeter contingent came up with
strong performances to win the
next two and set the stage for the
show-down, but they couldn't put
together when the chips were on
the line.
Listowel stormed to the attack
from the opening whistle and only
some spectacular netminding by
Roger O'Brien kept the locals in
contention.

TANGLED UP — Defencemen Ron Bilcke and Darrell Preszcator are
reflected in the glass along the boards as they engage in a shoving
match with a couple of Listowel players. The Listowel coach watches
the action from his lofty perch,, while one of the referees moves in to
separate the players. It resulted in nothing more than some mean
glances. T-A photo
