Last fall we moved from
Saskatoon to Stratford
and everything appeared
to go smoothly until we
discovered that we were
missing a rug.
We wrote the company
about our lost article but
after a period of time,
when we still hadn't
received a reply we wrote
again. Still no reply, so we
phoned long distance and
were told that a claims
form has been mailed to
us but here we are into
spring and we're still
waiting on this "magic
form".
A thorough search by
the moving and storage
company has failed to
turn up any clue as to
what happened to your
rug. However they have
agreed to compensate
you with a $75 cheque
which is now up to you to
either accept or reject.
Well a recent list issued
by the Federal Depart-
ment of Consumer and
Corporate Affairs inform
us that, 25 convictions
were registered from Oc-
tober 1st to December
31st, 1976 and the offen-
ding firms paid out a total
of $20,000 in fines.
The Bay on two counts,
fined $1500 and $750. K-
Tel International fined
$500. N.S.I, Marketing
Ltd, fined $3,000 and a
falsely advertised cir-
culation figure was
proven against Outdoor
Canada Magazine,
resulting in a fine of $500.
It's re-assuring to know
that some progress is be-
ing made in this direc-
tion, to help the con-
sumer.

Since I am going to be
moving in the very near
future I thought I'd like to
dispose of some excess ar-
ticles at a garage sale.
Does one need a special
permit to conduct such a
sale, and if so, how do I go
about getting it.?
Also, am I allowed to
advertise the sale in the
paper?
As far as we have been
able to determine, no
licence or permit is re-
quired to conduct a gar-
age sale, as long as it's
only run once and doesn't
become a regular affair.
However we would ad-
vise you to contact your
local police office and
make sure you're not
breaking any parking
laws.
Such sales can be
advertised in advance in
your local newspaper.

Busy Buddies Groups met for
cards and crafts on Thursday

Merna O'Neil chaired the

the motion to have a food booth at
the Lions' Club Fair, was
rescinded, as on second thought
during the past week, all those
present felt it was a project that
was too demanding for senior
citizens. Birthday greetings were
extended to Reola Hotson.

Spring cleanup
set for May 16
The regular spring cleanup
garbage collection day in Lucan
has been scheduled for Monday,
May 16.
On this day, the regular gar-
bage contractor C.H. Lewis Ltd.
will pick up all garbage and
refuse which is not acceptable on
normal pickups.
All Lucan residents with
materials to be picked up on the
special day May 16 are asked to
have the refuse placed at the curb
by 9 a.m.
Came across the following the
other day and thought it may be
of interest to those living in the
Irish Town. The longest name in
Irish topography is a matter of
dispute, but Castletown-
conyersmaceniery in County
Limerick has a strong claim to
the title.
Also strong in the running is
Muickeenachidirdhashaile. If
you ever had an afternoon to
spare you might like to
pronounce that last one and a
rough phonic equivalent is
"muck-heen-idege-er-daw-sawl-
yeh". Championed by many,
Cooneenaskirroogohifran„, (little
harbour sliding to Hell) suffers
from one handicap—No one has
ever established that it exists.
In County Donegal they offer
Bealachanghiollaganleine (the
pass of the shirtless servant).
There now and may the saints
presarve us—I hope that I made
your day, Musha, Bedad,
Begorrah and Bejabers.
April should prove to be a busy

after the affairs of your Branch of
the Royal Canadian Legion
during the next term.
This will be a most important
meeting Comrades and a must
one for you to attend. Our
Associate Members are
reminded president Jim Simpson
will have some very interesting
and important news for them so
they too are urged to attend.
Saturday and Sunday, April 16
and 17, the Comrades of District
A meet in Convention at The
Royal Canadian Legion Branch,

at 6:20 p.m. Saturday on High-

Leckie reported to police that his
pickup truck had been struck
while parked in front of his
residence on Alice street in
Lucan.
Constable J.A. Wilson set
damages at $50 and is in-
vestigating the accident as a hit
and run as the other vehicle fled
the scene.
This is a great honor for
Branch 540 and the first time ever
that we hope to have a District
Commander elected from our
Branch. Comrades it is hoped
that many of the Comrades of
Lucan Branch will proceed to St.
Thomas to cheer Comrade Bill in
his effort to be of more service to
Legion. If you cannot be there on
Saturday, make it a point to be in
attendance Sunday, for this will
be the date of the Elections. See
yu there.
Another date to keep in mind—
Sunday, April 24, By popular
demand a third fun bowling
match will be held at the Lucan
Lanes, but more about this later,
And that's 30 for this week—
remember—Mathematicians will
deny it, but it is possible for a well
arranged set of curves to make a

The new parking bylaw for the
village of Lucan which has been
under discussion by council for
several months was given final
reading Monday night and will be
in effect as soon as the necessary
signs are posted.
In order to facilitate better
snow plowing and street
sweeping no vehicles will be
allowed on any streets or high-
ways within the village limits
between the hours of 2 a.m, and 8
a.m. on any day.
Signs informing motorists of
the no parking regulations will be
put up at all entrances to the
village. Fines for infractions of
the parking bylaw may be levied
up to a maximum of $50.
Council will be calling tenders
immediately for the recon-
struction of Water street. The
work will consist of paving and
installing of curbs, gutters and
sidewalks. Tenders are to be in
by April 30 with the work
hopefully completed by July 31 of
this year.
A letter from Ontario Premier
William Davis informing that
grants up to $5,000 are available
for celebration to be held in
connection with this year's silver
jubilee for Queen Elizabeth was
tabled until next month,
Grants matched by local
contibutions will support any arts
or heritage events. Reeve Ivan
Hearn said a committee would
probably be set up at the May
meeting and councillor Norm

Lucan citizens should be included
on the committee.
