The data was gathered from seismic tests - recording of sound waves from rocks deep in the earth - conducted on land Shell is leasing from farmers in the four counties, Ebbels said. "No seismic work is being done now," he said. "We're picking up some small pieces of acreage. We hope we can start drilling within a year." Ebbels said he couldn't divulge the acreage involved or precise location for competitive reasons. He said the industry hasn't been particularly successful in finding oil in the producing regions of Alberta and Saskat- chewan, "Gas has been found in Alberta, but very little oil has been added to reserves so we're anxious to find oil wherever we can." The current exploration in Southwestern Ontario along the southeast shore of Lake Huron is "a relatively small play for us. But, depending on what we find, it could be an important one, being so close to markets." Michigan Oil Co., a wholly- owned subsidiary of Sparton Corp. of Jackson, Mich., reported this month that a test well drilled in Lambton County is producing more than 10 million cubic feet of gas a day. The well, drilled on 44,877 net acres of leasehold interests mainly in Lambton County, was acquired recently from McClure Oil Co. of Alma, Mich, Michigan Oil owns 25 percent of the working interest in each of the two gas wells. Union Gas Co. Ltd. of Chatham and Consumers Gas Co. of Toronto own the rest. T-A photo Stephen to recall tenders for two-way radio system Stephen township council will be calling tenders for the second time for the supply and in- stallation of a two way radio system in the township office and road department vehicles, The contract was originally awarded to Canadian Motorola, but it was not accepted by the Ontario Ministry of Tran- sportation and Communications, Clerk Wilmar Wein said specifications in the first tender call were not spelled out clearly enough and council has rescinded the original motion to purchase the radio equipment. Road superintendent Frank Mclsaac has been instructed to contact the Huron County road department to make the necessary minor repairs to the asphalt roads in the township which are not under provincial or county jurisdiction. Land severances were ap- proved for Jim Patterson, part lot 27, Concession NB; Dawson Hayter, lot 3, Concession 1 and Jessie Rader, lot 17, concession N.B. The tender of Pollard Bros of Harrow to supply and spread about 150 flaked tons of liquid calcium on township roads was accepted at a cost of $89 per flaked ton. It was the lowest of two bids received. A bid of $500 from Glavin Farms to purchase the Inter- national tanker truck which was recently advertised was ac- cepted. Ken Dunn of the B. M. Ross engineering firm of Goderich has been engaged to prepare reports on the condition of all bridges in the township with spans in excess of 20 feet. Harvey Hillman representing the Exeter claybird gun club asked council for information on possible financial aid in raising pheasants in the township, By MRS. STAN PRESZCATOR Earl Haist returned home Tuesday from Victoria Hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Grasdahl returned home from a five week vacation in Florida. Mrs. Stan Preszcator, Mrs. Joe Thornton and Mrs. Joe Regier visited Tuesday with Mrs, Harold McCallum and Mr, & Mrs, Ed Regele, RR 4 Walton. Mrs, Joe Thornton and Mrs, Stan Preszcator visited Monday with Mrs. Roma Smith, Seaforth and Mr. Si Mrs, Earle Steele, RR 4 Seaforth. He was told the township would pay for the feed for any pheasants raised, as they have in the past. A number of municipal drain reports were read. The Glavin- Swartz, Glavin and Lewis-Regan drains were not appealed. The latter was given third reading ,and the other two are awaiting provincial approval, Decisions on the New Venice: Eagleson and Smith-Carroll drains were reserved for two weeks pending the receipt of further information, Slight changes in assessment were made in the Stade drain on properties owned by John Twynstra and Frans Boogemans, Resignations of William Averill from the Stephen Community Centre Board and Mike Underhill and Al Lavier of the Huron Park fire department were accepted. A resolution was passed whereby Stephen will assume 10 percent ownership of the new South Huron Recreation Centre complex in Exeter. The agreement which will be signed shortly does not commit the township for any liability in operating costs. Shell Canada Ltd. has com- pleted seismic recording tests on leased land in Middlesex, Larnbton, Huron and Bruce counties and hopes to start drilling for oil and gas within a year, a company official said this week. J. C. Ebbels of Calgary, Manager of the industry and government affairs department of Shell Canada Resources Ltd., a Lost books Continued from front page. indicated a shelf inventory and while the books missing were not on the shelf they may have been in another place in the school. He said the shelf inventory would be considerably different on Sep- tember 1 when the school was reorganized. "There is little doubt however that all five secondary schools will have a certain amount of erosion of books each year," said Wooden who attended the board meeting as a spectator. Colborne trustee Shirley Hazlitt said she had heard from librarians that great losses were being suffered in the school libraries adding that the board should find out. John Henderson suggested that an annual report be prepared for the board with the intent of revealing actual book losses. Given $200 for centennial Huron County Board of Education trustees played politics at the Monday board meeting when a request for Centennial Funds came to the board from Blyth Public School. The request was for a $200 grant for a school reunion in con- junction with the village's 100th birthday this summer, The expenses the reunion organizers wanted help for were listed and totaled $75' for publicity, $40 for ticket printing, $35 for postage and $50 for display material. Goderich trustee Cayley Hill, recalling a similar request from organizers of a reunion at Goderich District Collegiate Institute for the town's 150th celebration of its founding, said that Goderich got one third of what it asked for. The organizers asked for $700 and received $200 to be used strictly for postage. Blyth trustee R. J. Elliott replied to Hill that Blyth had asked for a realistic figure when requesting their grant. "They probably had it pumped up to allow for that," said Hill. Colborne trustee Shirley Hazlitt moved that the board give Blyth $35 for postage and the boards' best wishes. Elliott said that as he recalled the board gave Goderich $200 after a request for $700 was made. He also recalled the grant was being used for postage, coffee, cookies and other similar things. Director of education John Cochrane looked up the minutes of the meeting where the Goderich grant was discussed and said that the board stipulated that the $200 was to be used strictly for postage. Hazlitt's motion was defeated and Elliott moved that Blyth be given the $200 requested and that the board establish a policy for financial involvement in cen- tennial projects in the future. The motion was carried. MARGARET GOODING Margaret A. At Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital on Saturday, April 2, 1977. Margaret (Geromette) Gooding, Parkhill in her 78th year.
