At a recent meeting the Mid-
dlesex Board of Education ac-
cepted en offer from the Village
of Ailsa Craig of $60,000 to pur-
chase the former school located
in the heart of the village.
The two storey brick building is
located on five lots in all, three of
which are located on the other
side of the street immediately in
front of the school building.
The sale of the property is
currently waiting the final ap-
proval from the Ministry of
Education,
For the past three years the
school has not been used by the
Board of Education. In 1974 East
Williams Memorial Public School
opened its new wing and children
from the village were then.
transferred to the school at Nairn
and the Ailsa Craig School closed.
Since then the school has been
leased annually to the village of
Ailsa Craig and used for com-
munity organizations such as
cubs, scouts and the Take-A-
Break group on a regular basis.

municipalities shortly to help
raise funds for the new Ailsa
Craig and District Community
Centre.

has prepared an informative
pamphlet outlining the financial
needs for the proposed com-
munity centre which will be
located on sixteen acres of the
Old Flax property in Ailsa Craig.
The brochure will be mailed to
every household in the three
areas concerned within the next
few weeks. The pamphlet will
also give a detailed description of
the proposed building and its
functions.
By mid April it is expected that
the canvass committees will be
ready to visit each home in an
attempt to raise at least $75,000 in
order to qualify for Wintario
monies. The estimated cost of the
new community centre is ap-
proximately $300,000.
The fund raising program will
officially be started April 2 with a
kick-off dance at the Parkhill
Community Centre.
A "growth chart" giving the
actual amount of funds raised
will be erected on Main Street to
keep all informed of the progress
of the financial campaign. An
official tax number has been
obtained in order to issue receipts
for income tax purposes to those
making donations,
The three area councils in-
volved unanimously agreed on
the new centre being named,
"The Ailsa Craig and District
Community Centre."
