The two storey brick building was built in the late 1873's with the first classes being held in the school in January, 1874. Photo by Scheifele Hold shower for bride-elect, baptismal at Lutheran church By JQY SCH81FEI-g At a recent meeting the Mid- dlesex Board of Education ac- cepted en offer from the Village of Ailsa Craig of $60,000 to pur- chase the former school located in the heart of the village. The two storey brick building is located on five lots in all, three of which are located on the other side of the street immediately in front of the school building. The sale of the property is currently waiting the final ap- proval from the Ministry of Education, For the past three years the school has not been used by the Board of Education. In 1974 East Williams Memorial Public School opened its new wing and children from the village were then. transferred to the school at Nairn and the Ailsa Craig School closed. Since then the school has been leased annually to the village of Ailsa Craig and used for com- munity organizations such as cubs, scouts and the Take-A- Break group on a regular basis. Bible College has also used the By JOY SCHEIFELE AILSA CRAIG Community members from Ailsa Craig and McGillivray and East Williams townships are currently forming canvass committees which will visit every home within the three municipalities shortly to help raise funds for the new Ailsa Craig and District Community Centre. The Finance Committee of the new Community Centre Board By MRS. J. TEMPLEMAN Roy Balkwell is at present in Victoria Hospital, London where he underwent surgery. Mrs. Dave Capling, Mississauga visited Sunday with her parents Mr. & Mrs. John Templeman and family. At time of writting Mrs. Ruby Reed is in Seaforth Community Hospital, Mr. & Mrs. Rob Templeman visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs. Donald Cole. has prepared an informative pamphlet outlining the financial needs for the proposed com- munity centre which will be located on sixteen acres of the Old Flax property in Ailsa Craig. The brochure will be mailed to every household in the three areas concerned within the next few weeks. The pamphlet will also give a detailed description of the proposed building and its functions. By mid April it is expected that the canvass committees will be ready to visit each home in an attempt to raise at least $75,000 in order to qualify for Wintario monies. The estimated cost of the new community centre is ap- proximately $300,000. The fund raising program will officially be started April 2 with a kick-off dance at the Parkhill Community Centre. A "growth chart" giving the actual amount of funds raised will be erected on Main Street to keep all informed of the progress of the financial campaign. An official tax number has been obtained in order to issue receipts for income tax purposes to those making donations, The three area councils in- volved unanimously agreed on the new centre being named, "The Ailsa Craig and District Community Centre." IRVIN RADER DASHWOOD Mrs. Don Gaiser, Mrs, Jack Gaiser and Mrs. Bruce Seebach, Kitchener were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower for their niece, Lois Poland, Camp- bellford, bride-elect of April at the home of Mrs. Don Gaiser Sunday, March 27, for relatives and friends. Lois was recipient of many lovely gifts for which she thanked all. The hostesses served lunch. Persona Is Mrs, Irvin Rader visited with Mr. & Mrs. Wellw000d Gill, Wednesday. Mrs. Gill had the misfortune to fall spraihing her ankle. Adolph Keller has returned home from Victoria hospital where he underwent surgery. Mrs. Keller had spent the time in London with her daughter and family, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Sanders, Pastor and Mrs. Bruce Guy spent a few days with Mr. Guy's 85 year old mother, Mrs. Lela Guy, Windsor, last week. Rev. Guy attended "Think Tank" meetings at Chatham on Christian Initiation concerning such topics as baptism, con- firmation, church membership and growth of the Holy Spirit, These sessions were attended by ministers and laymen from all over the London Conference area, Of,interest to Dashwood people, he spoke to Helen James wife of Rev. Merrill James, Windsor, former pastor of Calvary United Church. She told him their son John will be ordained this year and Orville is also training for the ministry, Both boys attend Queen's University at Kingston. They are also delighted that John and his wife have a daughter, Mr. Sr Mrs. Sheldon Gould, Windsor, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Chandler. Pastor and Mrs. Arthur Rader and family, Bramalea, spent a few days with Arthur's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Elgin Rader and Brian last week.
