There was a foin turnout to enjoy the dancin' and would yu believe it just a great Irish Stew to finish up the evening, Seniors enjoy pair of films Members of the Sunshine Group and the Busy Buddies Craft Group enjoyed two films, courtesy of Labbatts' Ltd. at their meeting on Thursday af- ternoon. One film was on tying trout flies and then fishing with them in a beautiful fall setting, entitled "Three Trout to Dream About". The fisherman had caught one trout on each of three flies on his rod. The other film was "Colour is Living", gorgeous pictures of birds, animals and scenery. Many thanks to Cecil Robb for procuring the films for the club. Bingo was enjoyed by members of the Sunshine Group as well as eight members playing Bridge with Agnes Hotson and Maude Hodgins taking high score. Effie Harrison of AiIse Craig was welcomed as a guest. Mrs. Harrison brought Zelma Arm- strong to the meeting in order for her to instruct the "Busy Bud- dies" in "Care of the Nails" and "Improving the Jawline". Many thanks Zelma for a different type of program. Vina Emery was thanked, in absentia, for decorating the hall with shamrocks, etc. in honour of St. Patrick and singsong of Irish songs was enjoyed. Thanks were received from George McCallum and Bill Salter for their flowers. During lunch provided by Mae Bowman, Charlotte Barker and Olga Bond, a "lucky cup" prize was won by Muriel Cobleigh, as her cup had March 17 on the bottom of it. Our Good Comrade Carl Stuckless, that Newfie Irishman, and his foin crew did a smackup job and its congratulations to the Lot 0' Yu. I won't be forgettin to mention we had a few Leprechauns in attendance, imported direct from the Emerald Isle, just spoofin a little, In any event you will see them in a photo in another portion of this paper being welcomed to the affair by our good friend Carl Stuckless, Can you recognize our Leprechaun friends, well con- fidentially they were Don Ruddy, Nancy Densmore, Gary and Linda Hayter. The next date to remember is Sunday, March 27, for this will be our second 1977 fun bowling match starting time 1 p,m. at the Lucan Bowling Lanes. Following the games the contestants return to the Lucan Legion for a smorgasbord pot luck dinner. It doesn't matter if you ever bowled before or not these are strictly fun games and are open for Legion Members and their guests. Make it a point to attend and get in on the fun. And that's 30 for this week remember—Co-operation is doing with a smile what you have to do anyway. Express values on Missions Members of the Friendship Unit of the Lucan United Church Women held their March meeting at the Church on Wednesday, March 16. Sandra Munro led the group in worship on the theme of " Beauty" with Elva Timms reading the scripture. The Study Book "Expressing Values on Missions" was taken by Donna Van Arenthals. During the business meeting, chaired by leader Shirley Ryan, plans were discussed for the annual Spring Fellowship Lun- cheon which will be held following the service on Sunday, April 3. The General U.C.W. "order - ahead" Easter Bake Sale on April 9 was also discussed and the General U,C.W, Easter Thank Offering Meeting was announced for Tuesday, April 12 when this Unit is responsible for reshreshments and the Evening Unit is in charge of the program. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 8:30 p.m. Beth Miller and Ann Holden served lunch for the meeting. One person was killed, eight others were injured and damages totalled $7,000 in nine accidents investigated this week by officers of the Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. Reginald Arnold of London was killed as the result of an accident on the Denfield Sideroad, about a mile south of Denfield at 4:10 p.m. Friday afternoon, Arnold was the lone occupant of a vehicle which left the roadway and struck a tree, The 1975 Volkswagen was completely demolished. The victim was taken to University Hospital by Haskett's Ambulance of Lucan where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Dr. R.N. Green, London was the Coroner and Constable J.A. Wilson and Corporal Tom Collins were the investigating officers. Two other accidents occurred Friday and a return of wintry weather conditions was responsible. At 10:40 a.m, a vehicle driven by Catherine O'Neil, RR 3, Granton, left Highway 4 between Concession 11 and 12 in London township and rolled onto its side. Constable D.R. Vance set damages at $250. At 1:15 p.m. the same day, a pickup truck driven by John Mills, RR 1, Ilderton left Con- cession Road 8 in London township between the Hyde Park and Cameron sideroads and rolled into the ditch. Constable B.D. Munro listed damages at $1,000. Friday night, Robert Davidson, RR 2, Lucan reported to police that his pickup truck had been struck while parked in the driveway at 174 Market Street in Lucan. The hit and run vehicle had been westbound on Market Street. It failed to negotiate a curve and struck the truck. Constable Munro ,Is continuing the investigation.He set damages at $250. Thursday morning at 12:04 a.m. on Highway 4, a quarter mile south of Elginfield, a vehicle driven by Christopher Oliver, London, left the road and rolled over in the ditch. Oliver and two passengers Atari Templeton and John Swift, also of London were taken to University Hospital, London by Haskett's Ambulance. They suffered minor injuries, Constable G.N. Wilcox estimated damages at $800. Vehicles driven by Edward Losch, Kitchener and Douglas Pinnell, London, collided head-on at 7:15 a.m, Tuesday on Highway 7 at the Thames River bridge. Both drivers and two passengers in the Pinnell vehicle received minor injuries but were not hospitalized. Constable N.A. Campbell listed damages at $1,600. Constable J.A. Wilson set damages at $250 when a dump truck driven by Jeffrey Young, Lucan struck a parked car on Nicoline Street in Lucan. The mishap occurred at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. Only 10 minutes later on High- Congratulations! to Mr. & Mrs. Stephen Carter (nee Wendy Middleton) who were married in St. James Church, Clandeboye, Friday evening, March 18. The reception and dance was held in the Ilderton Community Centre, They are honeymooning in Nassau and on their return will be living at the Clan-Lan Apart- ments. Harold Aitkins returned home last week from Clermont, Florida, where he spent the past four months. James Henry is spending this week with his sister, Judi Henry in Dallas, Texas. Mr. & Mrs. Earl Dietrich, five-week old David E. and wee brother Jonathan, Mitchell, visited on Saturday with their great-great aunt and uncle, Olive and Harvey Ovens, Clandeboye, Miss Brenda Scott, a student at North Middlesex District High School was on secretarial work experience last week at the Cuddy Farms Limited, Strathroy. 4H The second meeting of Clan- deboye No. 2 took place Wed- nesday at the home of Mrs. Groenewegen. They decided to call the club, "The Blouse- a-Teers." The roll call was to bring a picture of a garment that is attractive, and tell why. Topics By MRS. Larry Hern was chairman for the evening and Earl French and Gerald Wallis made the presentation. Jeffery and David Betteridge, St. Marys are holidaying with their grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Johnson. Barry Mills left Friday night for a weeks holiday in Nassau. He went with fellow students from Medway High School. Several in the community attended the pot luck supper and euchre in the Masonic Hall, Granton Thursday evening WIZARDS MEET The fifth meeting - of the "Wardrobe Wizards" was held at the home of the leader, Mrs. Gerald Straatman Saturday, March 18, The members discussed the roll call which was "Observe , for a feW minutes, someone you don't know and tell what impression you get of that person". The leaders discussed with the girls hOw clothing communicates and showed them how to do seams and seafn-finishes. It was decided to have the next meeting on Saturday, March 26 and it will be at the home of Mrs: Street- man. Collars and set-in sleeves wilfte featured at that meeting. The monthly meeting of the Lucan Women's Institute was held Wednesday, March 16, in the lower Masonic Hall, with vice- president Vine Emery in the chair. The roll call "Name a product produced or manufactured in Lucan or Biddulph, by early settlers" was answered by 17 members and five guests. The motto "Life is like a treasure chest, we fill it with golden moments", was taken by Leda Revington and the convener for the meeting Violet Hardy, Tweedsmuir History Curator, took the members on an "arm- chair vacation" to the Caribbean. The cruise was much enjoyed by all those present. Mrs. Hardy also had several article which she had purchased or been given at the various "ports-of-call". A letter of thanks was read from Pam Moor who had been sponsored by the Branch in the recent Farm Show Prin&ess Contest, Pam will be invited, to give the talk she gave at the show, to the members at the April meeting. Achievement Day for the three Lucan 4-H Clubs was announced for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, and an invitation was read to attend the meeting ofCloverdaleBranch, Parkhill, Wednesday, March 30 at 1:30 p.m. Anne Straatman, leader of the "Wardrobe Wizards" 4-H Club told of the current project and urged.., the,,W,I. members and friends to attend the Achievement Day. Marjorie Crozier presented the nominating committee report and the new slate of officers will be installed at the April meeting. Conveners were reminded to prepare their reports in triplicate ready for the' annual meeting Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root. in the Masonic Hall. Rachel Tuke read the story of St. Patrick's life and a poem on the same theme, She also won the prize for the "wearin' o' the green", Kathleen Neil won the mystery prize. Mrs. Hardy had arranged a display of Irish ar- UC sermons on managing Rev. Charles Scott continuea his Lenten sermons on Sunday speaking on "Managing". Two young men read the scriptures, Jeff Young and Bill Lockyer with Mr. Scott predicting that Jeff would be a politician and Bill a sports announcer, but they told him he was ,"way off"! A solo by Jean Jones "This Quiet Hour" contributed much to the service. This morning at 9:45 the in- terdenominational "Prayer & Share" group will meet the church. All women of the com- munity are welcome. The Couples' Club Easter program will be presented at 8 p.m. also in the Church. Next Tuesday evening, March 29 at 8 pm. the Evening Unit will continue their Mission Study on phases of life in Canada, as compared to Cuba, Tanzania and China. All women are welcome, tides brought in by members which was very interesting. Mrs, Emery thanked all those taking part in the meeting and lunch was served by Lillian Ashton and Iola Goring. A card had been signed during the meeting for Rita Robb and during lunch a birthday cake, baked by Kathleen Neil, was presented to Mrs. Robb and cut by her for all to enjoy.
