Council asks support

Rev. Jack Thompson, London,
Secretary of the Western Ontario

United Church on Sunday. The
flowers in the church, and also in
the Anglican Church were placed
there by the family of the late

brother Russell MacGregor died
in the Bluewater Rest Home,

Although I have frequently had
the pleasure of reporting of
visitors to Mt. Carmel, two recent
visitors to our area have
travelled the farthest of any I
have mentioned. They are Peter
and Maria Jeromkin, the uncle
and aunt of Mr. Nick Jeromkin
Jr., who have journeyed from
Novosibirsk, a city in the Soviet
Union.
The couple arrived in Canada
February 11 and are staying with
Peter's brother and sister-in-law
Mr. & Mrs. Nick Jeromkin Sr.,
RR 3, Dashwood.
Their trip to Canada was a long
and complicated one involving 11
hours of flight time. They were
driven from their home in
Novosibirsk to Moscow, flew
from Moscow to Zurich, from
Zurich to Frankfurt, from Frank-
burt to Montreal and finally from
Montreal to Toronto.
Novosibirsk , the city from
which the couple's long journey
commenced, is the largest city in
Siberia. The city itself is only 70
years old, but few cities in the
world have grown as rapidly. Its
present population .of 1,200,000
people ranks eighth in the Soviet
Union and its land area of 480
square kilometers is 'exceeded
only by Moscow and Leningrad.
The city is a major industrial and
scientific center as well as a
major cultural center involved in

the advancement of the arts.
The Jeromkins have a visa for
a six-month stay in our country so
they will have ample time to see
many of the points of interest we
Canadians are so proud of.
Already Mr. Peter Jeromkin has
had a unique tour of our area as
he joined Mr, Nick Jeromkin
Jr. for a two hour flight in Mr.
Jeromkin's plane.
No doubt a sort of cultural
exchange between the Soviet
couple and the Jeromkins of our
area will occur and at the. present
the only problem that exists is
one of communication, which is
extremely frustrating since the
travellers and their hosts are
eager to, ask many questions.

Sunday Giselle Vanneste, the
daughter of Willy and Jeannine
Vanneste, was baptized and
welcomed as a member of the

By the way: Did you hear about
the minister who told his
congregation he had received a

When questioned, he revealed he
was offered $300 more salary.
"Parson," he was told "that isn't

Grand Bend council has
requested local businessmen and
women support them in their
attempt to get sewers in Grand
Bend this year, even if it is only
along the main street,
This support is coming from
the businesses in the form of
letters of support.
One businessman, Bill Ram-
meloo attended the council
meeting to find out just what
stage the sewers are at. Reeve
Bob Sharen explained the 0M13
had approved the villages
request for sewers, but there was
no money to begin construction,
"We have to prove we need
those sewers worse than someone
else," explained Reeve Sharen.
"That is one reason we have
asked local business to support
council's request for sewers.
Deputy-Reeve Bob Simpson
indicated to Mr, Rammeloo,
Council is trying to at least get
sewers started on the main street
regardless of whether or not the
money is available to complete
the job at the same time.
Reeve Sharen said council has
still received no official notice
from OMB concerning a starting
date for the sewers.
However in a letter the
