The big event took place
Sunday when the ladies of the
community served chili and
coffee to over 350 snowmobilers
in the "Whipper Watson
Snowarama for Crippled
Children." The snowarama
started at HuIly Gully and
Whalen corners was about the
halfway check point.
The highlight of the day was
when "Whipper Watson" visited
the Community Centre and
signed autographs for his ad-
mirers.
Margery Morley arrived home
Tuesday morning after a month's
visited with her son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. & Mrs Fred Sot-
cher in San Jose' California.
Margery enjoyed picking roses
and planting a garden while her
Whalen neighbours snjoyed snow
clogged roads.
Mr. & Mrs. John A. Damen
attended a 95th birthday party
Sunday evening for their great
uncle Dolph Allen of Manitoulin
Island who is visiting with
relatives in Denfield.

Sorority met Tuesday at the
Exeter Public School library. The
hostesses for the evening were
Linda Burgess and Barb Grant.
Roll call was to name a favorite
poet or poetess which was
followed by business.
After business Marianne Topp
welcomed sisters from Xi
Gamma Nu who joined for the
rest of the program. The
program for the evening was
literature-poetry and prose.
Joy Darling° gave a short in-
troduction to poetry. Carol
Bishop split members into two
groups with the help of Wanda
Graham and Joanne Bowen. The

Mrs. Bert Daynard and Mrs.
Carter Kerslake were hostesses
for the international meeting of
the Staffa Women's Institute held
in the township hall Wednesday,
February 23, with eight members
and a visitor present.
Mrs. Charles Douglas presided
and after opening with the
Institute Ode and Mary Stewart
Collect, read a poem written by a
member of the Weavering
Country Women (whom Staffa
W.I. correspond with) in Kent,
England.
A minute of silence was ob-
served in memory of Mrs.
Glanville, a former member. The
minutes of the January meeing
were read and correspondence
dealt with. Staffa W.I. received a
invitation to meet with Kirkton
W.I. on April 27.
Roll call was answered by
naming a country associated with
the Women's Institute. Mrs. John
Templeman commented on the
motto—If you think co-operation
isn't important, what happens
when a wheel drops off?
Each member told of a custom
from another country. Mrs.
Robert McCaughey played a
medley of old favourites on the
piano.
Mrs. Jean Carey travelled to
Prince Edward Island , and
Newfoundland last summer with
the South Perth County W.I.
members and delighted everyone

Mrs. Lloyd Miller chose as her
two minute talk on Perth, Roys
Church and Cemetery. 0 Canada
closed the meeting followed by a
social half hour.
Over 40 relatives gathered at
Staffa Hall on Saturday evening
to honour Calvin and Jane Annis
on their recent marriage. Bev
Templeman expressed the good
wishes of all present and after
opening their, gifts, progressive
euchre was enjoyed. Lunch
brought the evening to a close.
A former area resident, Mrs.
Dan Burns, Seaforth, celebrated
her 86th birthday with a family
dinner on Saturday evening at the
Zurich Hotel. Among Mrs. Burns
gifts was a lovely pink carnation
corsage.
Daughters Rose and Jean were
unable be present due to family
illness. Celebrating with Mrs.
Burns were, Mr. & Mrs. Ken
Burns, Goderich; Mr. & Mrs.
Harry Burns, Michael and Mark,
Kitchener; Mr. & Mrs. Jo Burns,
Staffa; Mr. & Mrs. Ferg Burns,

club on "Major in Meat" met
Sunday afternoon Febuary 20 at
the home of Mrs. Spencer Jef-
fery.
Officers chosen for this club

Norris; assistant secretary,
Marlene O'Reilly; press
repbrter, Ruth Harburn;
telephone girls, Marion Smale
and Janice Vivian; record book

The next meeting is scheduled
for Sunday, March 6, at the home
of Mrs. George Vivian, Mrs.
Vivian discussed the
requirements for this project and
Mary Jane Templeman
demonstrated how to make "Beef
Loaf Cups". Mrs, Vivian then
discussed good cook techniques
and read the sheet on your Major
in meat record book.
Marion Smale demonstrated
how to measure dry and wet
ingredients properly. Mrs.
Jeffery read and discussed meat
in the menu, the way it is and
meat structure. Name chosen for
the club was "Staffa Steakettes".
Stan Christie is home after a
stay in Stratford General
Hospital.
Hensall native critical
A former Hensall resident
George "Dodie" Sangster
remains in critical condition in
Health Science Centre in Win-
nipeg. He underwent emergency,
surgery, Monday,
