Order of Forester's ladies lodge
held their annual birthday party
which took the form of a
smorgasbord pot luck supper in
the Forester's Hall February 21.
Each member brought their
husband or a friend and another
couple. After being welcomed by
President Mrs. Larry Hern
members and guests partook of a
variety of casseroles with salads
to complement them, followed by
birthday cake and ice cream.
Later progressive euchre was
enjoyed, Prizes were won by Mrs.
Malcolm Spence, ladies' high
score; Mrs.. Gordon Dann
(playing as a man) men's high
score. Mrs. Henry Wissel, lone
hands; Mrs. James Doyle, ladies'
low score; and Ken Hodgson,
men's low score.
C.G.I.T. News
The C.G.I.T. meeting took
place at the United Church
Thursday evening opening with a
prayer followed by a hymn. The
girls then watched slides on
Mexico which is their current
study. Maria Vanderminnen read
an article on education and
bullfighting in Mexico, A new
member was welcomed, a friend
of Maria Vanderminnen, Debbie
Lascelles.
4-H News
The fourth meeting of the 4-H
Club "Consider 'your Clothes" -
was held at the home of leader
Mrs. Michael O'Shea Thursday.
The meeting opened with the 4-H
Pledge and the roll call answered
by the questions, "What would
you ask yourself or a sales clerk
when buying material?"
Business discussed was a name
for the Club, Ann Garrett
suggested "The Sweat Shirts".
The reason given for this was
because the scrap material could
be used as designs on the dark
blue book covers.
Leader Mrs. Garrett discussed
desires for things, compared to
those needed and also blouse
labels using cards which
illustrated the best type of label.
Leader Mrs, O'Shea gave in-
struction on three types of stit-
ching, namely stay stitching,
,darts and gathers.
Mrs. Garrett explained the
home assignment of finishing a
wardrobe chart and both leaders
talked to the members about
basting their blouse, so that they
would be ready for the next
meeting, they also discussed
patterns and were given the roll
call for the fifth meeting of this
club.
The meeting adjourned with
the 4-H Motto given by President
Brenda Tomlin, Mrs. Garrett will
be the hostess for the next
meeting Thursday, March 3, at 7
p.m,
Church news
At the United Church the
Granton Cubs and their leaders
Mrs. Doreen McRobert, Mrs.
Diane O'Shea and Mrs. Gloria
Riddell took part in a Church
Parade to wind up Scout and Cub
week, they were joined by the
C.G.I.T. and Explorers and their
leaders Mrs, Marion Gricken,
Mrs. Betty Rooney and Mrs.
Carol Johnson,
Rev. Elwood Morden was in
charge of the service and
welcomed the young people and
paid tribute to their leaders. Mrs.
O'Shea gave the history of Lord
Baden Powell founder of the
Sc out movement.
The minister entitled the
children's story "How tall does a
boy or girl have to be" and an-
swered the question with the
following words, "Tall enough to
see what is right; short enough to
see how to do it; brave enough to
do it; and strong enough to be
able to do it.
Sunday School pupils receiving
attendance awards were First
Pin, Dana Hofrichter, fourth pin,
Cindy Hofrichter, fifth pin, Heidi
Hayden and second bar, Allan
Mardlin. The Scripture lesson
Luke 23-27-38 was read by
C.G.I.T. Marnie Rooney, The
sermon, the first in a Lenten
series on "The last seven words"
was taken from the Scripture
Luke 23-34 "Father forgive them,
for they know not what they do"
and was entitled "The word of
foregiveness."
Christ's enemies knew that
they were doing wrong, but they
did not know that they were
committing a sin so black that it
was beyond realization said Rev.
Mordon, A reminder that the
World Day of Prayer will be held
in the United Church, March 4, at
7:30 p.m.
At St. Thomas Anglican Church
Rev. Mary Mills conducted the
morning service Sunday, it being
the first Sunday in Lent, took her
sermon from the Gospel of the
day, Matt. 4-1-10 which tells the
story of the temptation and our
Lord's experiences in the
wilderness.
Rev. Mills read a letter she had
received from Bishop Ragg,
regarding the Uganda appeal,
$20,000 has already been sent
from the Primate to the World
Relief and Development Fund.
The board of management
meeting will be held Wednesday
evening March 9 at the Rectory in
Kirkton.
Personals
Wishes for a speedy recovery
are extended to Mrs. Joseph
Bryan, who suffered a heart
attack and is a patient in St.
Marys Memorial Hospital.
Mr. & Mrs. Allan Ullman, Paul
and Cheryl of Sarnia, spent
Sunday with Mrs. Ullman's
parents Mr. & Mrs. Cliff
McRobert.

Dinner of the Canadian Cancer
Society, London Middlesex Unit
at Thameswood Lodge, London,
on Wednesday evening, February

fete husbands

ELIMVILLE
The members of the Elimville
Women Institute' accompanied
by their husbands and friends,
enjoyed an evening of fun at the
Exeter Bowling Lanes recently.
All alleys were occupied by six
enthusiastic bowlers at each.
A winner for high score at each
alley received a Wintario ticket,
compliments of Aub and Grace
Farqhuar. The lucky bowlers
were Mrs. Ina Skinner, Philip
Johns, Floyd Cooper, Gilbert
Johns, Dale Skinner and Howard
Pym.
Young Peoples
The Thames Road-Elimville
Young Peoples held a meeting
Thursday evening at Mrs. Jack
Wilison.
The Gideons were Sunday
guests at the Thames Road-
Elimville church services. The
guest preacher was Edgar
Cudmore and guest soloist was
Morley Hall.
Ladies in the community are
looking forward to the Quilting
Course being offered by the
Elimville W.I. The leaders Mrs.
Ivan Brock and Mrs. Bill Allen
will meet with the ladies who
have registered at Elimville
Church basement at 7:30, March
8 for their first class.
The Thames Road-Elimville
CGIT held a meeting Sunday
evening at Elimville,
Mr. & Mrs. Delmer Skinner
and Mr, & Mrs. Norman Jaques
visited Sunday evening with Mr.
& Mrs. Alvin Cooper.
Weekend guests with Doug
Cooper were Chris Gobbi and
Brian Stanicki of Pelham of the
Niagara area.
