Rec playoffs
underway
Les Pines edged Pfaff Electric
4-3 Tuesday night in the first
game of the Exeter and district
Rec hockey league playoffs. The
second game of the best-of-three
series will be played Tuesday
night at the Hensall arena at 8
p.m.
In Tuesday's other contest, the
Guess Who downed MacLean-
Passmore by a score of 9-4 to
earn the right to participate in
the other semi-final round
against Algoma Tire.
The Guess Who and Algoma
Tire will meet in Hensall Sunday
night at 7 p.m. and again Tuesday
night at 9.30 p.m.
Rick Moody fired two suc-
cessful shots to lead the Les Pines
scoring attack against Pfaff
Electric. Scoring in single
fashion were Pete Glover and
Pete Anderson.
The Pfaff Electric markers
were by Randy Gilfillan, Murray
Glanville and John Rowcliffe.
Murray Obre with a four goal
effort was best for the Guess
Who. Next in line with two goals
apiece were Doug Osgood and
Brian Horrell while Robert
Osgood notched a single goal,
Larry Skinner with a two goal
performance was best for
MacLean-Passmore. Netting one
goal apiece were Mike Elford and
Bill Van Bergen.

meeting, chaired by the leader,

decided to bring something
"baked, sewn or grown" to the
March meeting.
The World Day of Prayer was
announced for Friday, March 4,
at St, Patrick's Church, Lucan,
with Rev. Mary Mills of Kirkton
as guest speaker and the Lear-
ning for Lent program was an-
, nounced., Please note the change
of date for March from 22 to 29 to
enable all members to attend the
Cancer Society campaign
meeting. Lunch was served by

Playoff meeting tonight
Jets trounce London, finish in fourth

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets came Hockey Association Continental
up with two victories in three Senior league this week,
starts this week in the Ontario Friday, the Jets downed the
Woodstock Royals 8-5 and Sunday
afternoon they trounced the
league leading London Kings 10-
4, The only loss came Tuesday
against Preston by a score of 7-3,
All three games were played at
the Ilderton arena.
A league meeting is being held
tonight, Thursday in Ilderton to
formulate playoff plans. The Jets
will travel to Preston Friday
night to meet the Jesters,
In Tuesday's loss to Preston the
Jets were in contention for the
first two periods. They led 2-1 at
the end of the first and fell behind
4.3 at the end of 40 minutes of
play.
In the first period, Bill Ban-
nerman scored for the Jets on a
three-way effort with Jack
Chipchase and Scott Graham and
Ed Robb converted a pass froni
Randy Roth.
The final seating for the L-I
club came midway through the
second period when Jacques
Cousineau hit the mark on passes
from Jamie Robb and Bill
Bourne.
Good second period
Four goals in the second period
put the Jets into good position to
chalk up Sunday's 10-4 win over
the London Kings.
The first period was the closest
of the three with the Jets holding
onto a slim 3-2 margin.
The Kings were first on the
scoreboard when Chris Ban-
nerman hit the mark at 5:11 when
Jack Chipchase of the Jets was
serving a penalty.
Brotherly love prevailed only
two minutes later when Bill
Bannerman put the puck into the
London net and the score was
tied, Bannerman popped in a
rebound on a shot by Jack
Chipchase on a power play. Rick
Fifield also assisted.
Ed Robb shot the Jets into the
lead to stay at 8:23 on a quick
backhand shot on a play started
by Terry Johnston and Jacques
Cousineau.
Six minutes later Cousineau
made the score 3-2 with passing
help from Jamie and Ed Robb
and John Lutes scored for London
before the period ended.
In the middle frame the Jets
took command with Ed
Parkinson counting twice and
Randy Roth and Terry Johnston
adding singles.
Randy Roth, Rick Fifield and
Jim Pinnegar.each picked up two
assists in the second and Terry
Johnston added one assist. Al
Johnston was the lone marksmen
for the Kings.
At 8: 48.of the third session Rick
Fifield took a pass from Brian
Murphy up the middle and broke
in alone to score. Bill Bourne also
assisted.
Ed Parkinson fired his third
successful shot of the afternoon
with help from Rick Fifield and
Randy Roth and Ed Robb
completed a three-way effort
with Jamie Robb and Jim Pin-

Pee weer win
in Shamrock play
The Exeter Pee Wees opened
their Shamrock playoffs with a
convincing 7-4 win over Strathroy
in London's Hockeyland, Mon-
day.
The locals will be in a home-
and-home round robin playoff
with Strathroy, Lambeth, St.
Marys and possibly Belmont,
There was no scoring in the
first period of the playoff tilt and
Strathroy drew first blood after
only 60 seconds had elasped in the
second.
However, Dave Shaw fired two
unassisted efforts to give Exeter
a lead they never relinquished.
They held a 3-2 lead at the,end of
the second and potted two more
goals than Strathroy in the final
frame,
Mike Murray was also a two-
goal man for Exeter, while
singles came off the sticks of
Scott Pincombe, Bill Glover, and
Mark Vandergunst.
Vandergunst, Glover and
Pincombe also picked up one
assist each as did Steve Riddell,
Tom Coates heliced on a pair of
goals.
Lucan 4-H girls
discuss patterns
Meeting three of 4-H Ltiean No.
I was held on February 28 at Mrs.
Cowdrey's house, Lucan. Such
things as wardrobe building and
advance preparation for the
pattern were discussed.
Next meeting will be held at the
home of Darlene Paton, March 7,
at 7.00 p.m,

Friday against Woodstock the
Jets jumped into a 4-0 lead after
the first period and were never
headed.
Rick Fifield was first to blink
the red light on a three-way effort
with Ed Parkinson and Terry
Johnston on a low shot. The next
two scores for the Jets came in a
space of 19 seconds. Bill Ban-
nerman scored from Ken
McCutcheon and Scott Graham
and Graham converted passes
from Bannerman and Johnston.
Near the end of the period,
Graham scored again, this time
on a power play with passing help
from Bill Bourne.
Woodstock made a temporary
comeback early in the middle
frame on successful shots by Ted
Brown and Tom Glover, Before
the period was over the Jets were
able to regain the four goal
margin as Jamie Robb registered
from Doug Galloway and Rick
Fifield and Cousineau was
successful from Jamie Robb and
Jack Chipchase.
The Royals again started
quickly in the third period with
two more goals. Scoring were
Rick Kelly and Tom Murphy.
Rick Fifield scored the final
two markers for the L-I club. He
hit at 15:56 from Ed Parkinson
and Randy Roth and with seconds
left put the puck into the open
Woodstock net.
Tom Murphy was the last
Royal to put the puck behind
Lorne Daer in the Jets net.
