GRANTON
The Granton Women's Institute
met at the home of Mrs, Clifford
McRobert Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs, Gordon Dann presided and
opened the meeting with the
Institute Ode, the Lord's Prayer
and Mary Stewart Collect.
As the January meeting was
cancelled the roll call was an-
swered with either showing a
hand made article or reading a
verse containing the word love.
During the correspondence a
letter was read by the secretary
from Mrs. Herbert Maluske,
president of the Federated
Women's Institutes of Ontario,
also a program from the London
Art Gallery was passed around
for the members to read,
Thank you notes were read
from those people who received
Christmas boxes. Donations were
voted to the Children's War
Memorial Hospital, London and
the 4-H Club, Mrs. C. Lewis and
Mrs, G. Dann were in charge of
the program.
Mrs. Lewis read an article
from the Federated News on
Lace, this was in connection with
the topic Education and Cultural
Activities also a paper on the
Motto "Most people are in
favour of progress, it's the
change they don't like".
Mrs, Dann read excerpts from
the London Free Press dealing
with the slaughter of baby seals,
this will never really be stopped
as there is too 'Much money in-
volved said Mrs. Dann, a seal
hunter makes an average of
$2,200 each season, Household
hints were also given by Mrs.
Dann on the uses of vinegar.

church service at the home of Mr.
& Mrs. Hugh Davis Sunday af-
ternoon followed by the annual
Vestry meeting.
Rev. Mills announced that Gote
Wennerstrom had agreed to act
as ministers warden for 1977.
Wayne Carroll who served the
past several years as peoples
warden was replaced by Tom
Kooy.
Mrs. Hugh Davis and Gote
Wennerstrom are lay delegates
to Synod. Mrs. Tom Kooy
organist and Harry Carroll
fireman were honoured with gifts
from the congregation.
The board of management
remains the same with the ad-
dition of Mrs Tom Kooy. A
committee was elec d to' buy
storm windows and new heating
appliances for the Iarish hall

The World Day of Prayer was
announced for Friday March 4 at
7 p.m.
Flowers were placed in the
church from 'the funeral of the
late Myrtle Rathbourn of St.
Mary's.
At the Anglican Church, Rev.
Mary Mills conducted the
morning worship and officiated
at the service of Holy Com-
munion assisted by Miss Marion
Herbert.
It being Quinquagesima
Sunday which means preparing
for Easter, Rev. Mills took her
sermon from the Epistle of the
Day, Corr 1, chapter 13, The
chapter deals with Faith, Hope,
and Love and the greatest of
these is Love.
St. Thomas A.C.W.
Mrs. Clarence Lewis was the
hostess for the St. Thomas
A.C.W. February 8. Mrs. Percy
Hodgins presided and opened
with prayers and the Devotional
began by repeating the Twenty-
third Psalm in unison.
Mrs. Lewis gave the invocation
and Mrs. Jim Hodgins read the
scripture, followed by the
meditation taken by the following
ladies, Mrs. P. Hodgins, Mrs. A.
Carson, and Mrs. J. Noon. Mrs.
Lewis closed the devotional with
prayers.
Mrs. Jim Hodgins who has just
returned from a holiday on the
Island of Cozumel gave an in-
teresting account of the customs,
vegetation, climate and people
there. Plans were discussed for
the April Fools Supper, and the
Thankoffering for the A.C.W.
Annual also the World Day of
Prayer was announced.
Refreshments were served by the
hostess.

family were hosts for a birthday
party on Sunday afternoon in
honour of the former's mother,
Mrs. Beaton of Sarnia in
celebration of her 75th birthday.

her family along with grand-.
children. Other guests were Mr.
& Mrs. Donald Thompson,

The first in a series of Com-
municant's classes for teen-agers
will be held in the Centralia
United Church Sunday afternoon
at two o'clock.
A number from the compunity
attended the activities at the
Pineridge Chalet, Hensall,
Sunday in aid of crippled
children.

nounced that Summary Day for
the Needlepoint for beginners
course will be held in the Thorn-
dale W.I. Hall March 23. A pot
luck supper and euchre is
planned for March. Final
arrangements will be announced
la ter.
Cubs, Explorers and C.G.I.T.
The Granton Cub pack with
their leaders visited the Lucan
Police Station Monday evening
where they were shown a short
film and given a guided tour of
the building. Next Sunday, the
Cubs will wind up Scout and Cub
week with a church parade,at the
United Church , All cubs are
requested by their leaders to be
at the Scout Hall no later than 11
a.m. in full uniform ready to
parade to the church.
The C.G.I.T. among their other
• activites, are making a study of
Mexico and the Aztec Culture.
They are also requested with the
Explorers to attend the service
Sum nday. orfaay afternoon, the
Explorers met in the United
Church Basement for a Valentine
Party, each explorer brought a
friend and introduced her. After
the usual opening procedure the
visitors were welcomed and a
program of entertainment was
enjoyed.
The gold star girls staged a
beauty contest where the girls
appeared in, bathing suits and
long dresses, each member was
given a nickname. Those taking
part were Susan Noon, Julie
McRobert, Cathy Riddell, Janice
Gricken, Eveline Vanderminnen
and Margaret McGuffin, further
entertainment was provided by
Karen Hofrichter with piano
selections as background music
for the Beauty Contest, a poem
recited by Melissa Harding, card
tricks demonstrated by Susan
Noon, a piano solo by Julie
McRobert, Janice Gricken an
organ selection, Eveline Van-
derminnen a poehi. and Margaret
McGuffin a piano solo.
Highlight of the party was the
crowning of Miss Valentine from
the Beauty Contest, This honor
went to Margaret McGuffin.
Games were enjoyed followed by
attractive box lunches which
each explorer shared with her
guest topped off with a delicious
Valentine cake baked by leader
