It was announced that the church annual meeting and pot luck dinner has been postponed until February 27 after the morning service. The World Day of Prayer service will be held at the Presbyterian Church March 4 at 2;30 p.m, with Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith of Exeter as guest speaker. Dianne Gerstenkorn gave the topic "The Boiling Point of Janet MacGregor" — The story of a United Church Deaconess at work at Columbia House La Pointe, Montreal. The meeting closed with contests and a delicious lunch served by Elsie Carlisle and Jeanette Turner. The committee in charge for the March meeting is entertainment: Mrs. Irene Finlayson, Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and Bill Fairbairn; Lunch: Mr. & Mrs. Earl Kinsmen and Mrs. Mamie McAllister. Mr. Alf Ross was master of ceremonies. Mrs. Laird Mickle and Mrs. Alf Ross favoured with piano duets. Mrs. Agricultural society meets The South Huron Agricultural Society met in the Town. Hail, Hensall on Monday evening, February 7, with the president, Bill Coleman, presiding. Peter McNaughton presented George Frayne, Exeter, with a service diploma. The annual Spring Fair will be held on June 21. Elgin Thompson presided for the election of officers as follows: president, Bruce Rathwell; first vice-president, Robert Baker; second vice-president, Ray Consitt; auditors, John Baker and Eric Luther. Jack Corbett and Elgin Thompson were ap- pointed delegates to the Agricultural Convention being held in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, February 16 and 17. Hensall council adopted new pay scales for themselves and their employees at Monday's regular session, Reeve Harold Knight is to receive $50 for each meeting and councillors will receive $40 for each meeting they attend and Commissioners of the PUC are to be paid $480 per year, In addition they will receive $45 per day and $30 per half day for any special work undertaken on behalf of the village. The salary of the clerk- treasurer, tax collector and licencing officer Bob Heil was set at $500 bi-weekly, He will also be paid $20 for each special meeting of council he is called on to at- tend. The salary of works superin- tendent Gary Maxwell was set at $423.08 bi-weekly. The fire chief will be paid a retainer of $30 per month and will also receive $25 per month for expenses, The deputy fire chief will receive a retainer of $25 per month, Captains, engineers, mechanics and the secretary will be paid $13.50 per month, Fire fighters receive $11 per month, as well as $6.50 per hour when fighting fires and $3 per hour if a false alarm is answered. The salary of the caretaker of the dumpsite was set at $4 per hour. The council also•discussed the problem of stray dogs in the village. "I've been on council fifteen years and the situation is the worst it's ever been", Reeve Knight said. Council decided to advertise in local papers for someone to act as dog catcher in the village, Applications will be reviewed and remuneration set at the next regular meeting of the council. Also held over for a later meeting was the problem of by- law enforcement in the village. Council is to consider appointing someone to the job of by-law enforcement officer in the near future. A list of accounts for January totalling $7049.71 was cleared for payment by council. A list showing tax evasion in the amount of $1609.62 was for- warded by council to the treasurer of Huron County for collection. A bill from the Ministry of the Environment of $1120.06 for storm sewer service for the months of October, November and December was presented to council. A cheque in partial payment of that amount was cleared by council. Council also agreed to set up a meeting with the township of Hay and with B,M, Ross Associate to discuss the storm sewer proposed for construction in Hensall. The meeting is to be held Thursday, February 17, in the council chambers. Building permits were ap- proved at Monday night's meeting for McKnight's Mens Wear for renovations to their store, Bonthr on and Sons Limited, and for Bevan Boit- thron, Counciol voted to allow the Bank of Commerce to prepare a proposal for banking services outlining ways in which the village may save money on the banking services it requires. Council also voted to hear counter proposals which may be forthcoming from any other bank. A membership fee of $50 to the Rural Ontario Municipalities Asociation was approved for payment. Also approved was a grant of $25 to the St. John's Ambulance Society. Council also voted to place an advertisement in the Heritage Day issue of Kin Magazine thanking the local Kinsmen club for their contribution to the community, Councillor Harry Klungel will represent the village at a meeting with the Ministry of Natural Resources to be held in Exeter on February 25 at 9:30 a,m, The next regular meeting of the council will be held March 14, Former resident in critical shape George (Docile) Sangster is in critical condition in, Health; Science Centre, Winnipeg,' , Manitoba, Dodie is a former Hensall boy. e' Grant several pay boosts Council concerned about dogs Chiselhurst U.C.W. The U.C.W. February meeting of Chiselhurst United Church was held Tuesday afternoon following a morning of quilting and a pot luck dinner. The president, Mrs. Harold , Parker presided and opened the meeting with meditation followed by the theme song and theme prayer. The roll call was aiv, swered by the members reading''' the Beatitudes. The treasurer, Mrs. Thos. Brintnell gave the financial report. Members plan to entertain the residents at the Queensway Nursing Home each Monday in the month of March. The president announced the World Day of Prayer will be held in Carmel Presbyterian Church Friday, March 4, at 2:30 p.m. The theme is "Love in Action". The guest speaker will be Mrs. Gwyn Whilsmith of Exeter. Mrs. T. Brintnell gave a report of the recent Huron Presbyterial held at Seaforth. Mrs, Alf Ross favoured with piano music. The March meeting was discussed and business dealt with. The annual meeting will be held on February 18 at 7:30 p.m, Mrs. Jack Brintnell was in charge of the Worship Service the theme was "Point of View". Mrs. Thos. Brintnell took the Bible Study and discussed Chapters 10 and 12 of St. Mark. Following the business, Mrs. Parker closed the meeting with prayer. The meeting of unit 4 of Hensall United Church Women was held Thursday afternoon. Mrs. James McAllister opened the meeting by reading five verses from Psalm 103. Mrs. Ted Purdy gave the devotional and asked the questions. "Is every day just like any other?" She based her talk on Exodus 16: verses 22-30. s Mrs James McAllister had the topic and gave a graphic description on the life of Jesus. Mrs. Alfred Ross and Mrs, Laird Meckle played two piano duets which were enjoyed by all, Mrs, Nan Britton reported on the Huron Presbyterial held recently in Seaforth, The members were reminded of the Congregational supper to Come on over before the spring be held February 16, at 6:30 and rush to discuss upcoming also the World Day of Prayer on problems.
