MUSIC
16 Ontario Wiwi,
Stratford 271.2960
It was Friday before Stanley
council was able to hold its
regular February meeting
originally scheduled for Monday.
Poor weather conditions caused
the meeting to be postponed
several times.
At the meeting Stanley council
rejected a request from
Tuckersmith council that Stanley
pay a portion of the costs of the
Day Care Centre in Vanastra.
Stanley clerk Mel Graham said
while Stanley may have one or
two families using the day care
centre they are not sure exactly
how many there are.
Council did pass a resolution
concerning taxation. The
resolution calls for an amend-
ment to the provincial tax laws to
Snowbanks
a hazard
Ontario Hydro's regional
manager E. G. Bainbridge issued
a warning today that some of the
hydro facilities, lines and
transformer stations, may
present a hazard because of the
high snowbanks.
"Large snowfalls and high
drifts have combined to reduce
the clearances between electrical
wires and the ground, so that
persons can reach them more
readily."
Mr. Bainbridge also said that in
some parts of Southwestern
Ontario snowdrifts have piled
along fences at transformer
stations Making dangerous high
voltage equipment accessible,
especially to children.
"I've asked our seven area
offices in Western Region to be on
the lookout for these hazards and
arrange, where possible, to clear
the snow away from the tran-
sformer stations," he said.
Hydro urged customers to
avoid poles, lines, and other
installations, and to call the
nearest hydro or PUC office when
one of these hazardous situations
is. noted.
"Snowmobilers and skiers
shotild also be very careful,"
added Mr. Bainbridge.
Good Citizenship
deserves a medal
Do you know anyone here in Ontario who—through
selflessness, humanity and kindness without expect-
ing anything in return—has made this a better
province in which to live?
That's the kind of person for whom the Ontario
Medal for Good Citizenship was established.
Recipients are selected by an independent,
Advisory Council of Ontario citizens whose honorary
Chairman is the Lieutenant-Governor of the Province.
Anyone may nominate a person for the Ontario
Medal, and nomination forms are available by
writing:

Weather slows
board creation
While weather is causing
delays in the construction of the
South Huron Recreation Centre,
it is also delaying the establish-
ment of a board to operate the
new facility.
Mayor Bruce Shaw said this
week that meetings planned by
the people responsible for
establishing the board and its
guidelines have been cancelled in
the past couple of weeks due to
weather conditions.
A report was to have been
presented to this week's council
meeting, but Mayor Shaw said
there would be a two-week delay.
Exeter's representatives to the
board have still not been ap-
pointed by council.
The weather has also forced
cancellation of attempts to get
Exeter's planning board together
so they can determine what
course of action to take on the
new official plan and zoning
bylaws.
The board plans to meet this
week.
