Times-Advocate, February 10, 1977 Council seeks financial aid for beach patrols p 4." Last summer in Grand Bend there were eleven water rescues of a dangerous nature made by the beach lifeguards and two drownings. This summer the situation could be worse if the village does not receive some financial aid from the province to pay for beach patrols. In the past, on north beach, there has been a lifeguard on duty but his or her main concern was watching a buoyed off swimming area in the centre of the beach. This summer, if a proposal by the Grand Bend recreation committee is accepted by council, there would be no buoyed' off area. Rather, there would be beach patrols to watch the entire north beach. Last year's two drownings took place outside the restricted buoyed-off swimming area. Council has requested the Ministry of Tourism be asked for some financial support for the beach patrols. Otherwise the village will only hire three lifeguards which is the bare minimum necessary to patrol such a large beach area. General rules for the beach patrol outlined in the recreation committee proposal include such Funeral held for Bill Finch Funeral services were held Thursday from the T. Last year fourteen boats were warned away from the beach area, ten lost children were found, eight swimmers were warned by lifeguards of their dangerous behavior, seven cuts were treated, six loose dogs warnings were given, three swimmers had to be assisted Exchange vows at bride's home A lovely winter wedding was solemnized, Saturday, at the home of the bride's parents, Bonnie Doone Manor on the beach, when Kristie Sue, only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Melvin Douglas, was married to David Charles, only son of Mr. & Mrs. Ken Mclndoe of London.
