Clandeboye woman to mark 90th birthday Due to the storm the Clan- deboye Athletic Association was forced to postpone their dance but have arranged another date which will be Friday, May 6, in the Kirk ton-Woodham Coin- munity Centre, Hopefully, the snow will be long gone by then, A former resident of Clan- deboye, Miss Aggie Northgraves, will celebrate her 90th birthday on February 16. Miss Nor- thgraves, who still enjoys good health, now lives in the Frank Street Apartment in Luean. Best wishes are extended to her on her birthday. Miss Judi Henry, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Henry left last week for Dallas, Texas, where she will commence the spring semester of Bible School at Christ for the Nations Institute, George Simpson is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital where he underwent surgery last week. Mr. & Mrs. Michael Smith and Meg of St. Marys were Sunday visitors with the Hodgins at Shadyside Farm, Betty Anne Lewis and Valerie Leitch are holidaying in Florida. Mr, & Mrs. Clarence Millson entertained Sunday and had as By PAUL SALMON MT. CARMEL Intended for last week On the weekend of January 29 I had the dubious honour of being a statistic, since I was one of countless rural residents stranded in London. While stranded, one experiences a curious mixture of emotions, a great appreciation for those who have made room for you in their home and an acute eagerness to return home, They say that home is where you hang your hat. If I become stranded too many more times I am sure people will claim that it is also where I leave my intelligence! Although the torment of being trapped in by mountains of snow made that weekend somewhat less ' than exciting for some people, all was not a total loss. Leigh-Anne Darling, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Darling experienced a moment of triumph on that weekend at the high point of her involvment in the three-day Great Lakes Winter Skating Festival held at the London Gardens and London Skating Club. In a team effort with her partner, Laurie McGregor, Leigh-Anne won the gold medal in the Junior Bronze Dance. The Parkhill-based Silver Blade Skating Club, of which Leigh- Anne is a member acquired a total of seven medals in the Festival, five gold, one silver and one bronze. • Infortunately, the sidden storm that swept through the area turned what was to be a short stay in London for Leigh-Anne and her mother into a waiting game which lasted all weekend. By GORDON MORLEY Cecil Ellwood has returned home after spending some time with his daughter Mrs. Lloyd Odd and Mr. Odd of London. The Brinsley United Church congregational meeting and pot- luck dinner which was to be held Sunday was cancelled and will be held at a later date. They stayed at the home of Mr, Darling's niece, Fran and her husband Dick McSephanie, and returned to our area this past Sunday. Recently, after making a purchase at the Country Corner store owned by Mr, and Mrs. Don Darling, I realized that the face that looked at me from behind the counter was not familiar. I have since discovered that the face belongs to Gary Curtis, Mrs. Darling's cousin from Windsor who will be paying the Darlings' an extended visit. Oh the morning of Friday, January 28, what could have been a major tragedy luckily turned out to be a minor mishap, Two school buses, one from Mt. Carmel School and the other from Stephen Central School collided about two miles east of Mt. Carmel. The collision was not serious, no injuries occurred, and a fairly swift rescue of the school- children followed the accident. Not so fortunate were Mr. & Mrs. Julien Van Massenhoven of Bothwell, the parents of Annie Van Massenhoven, the housekeeper at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Rectory. They were badly shaken as their vehicle collided with another one on high- way 7, three miles south of Arkona, Mrs. Jean Hewitt passed away Thursday, February 3, 1977, in South Huron Hospital in her 87th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Hewitt in 1965. They were residents of Clan- deboye for 13 years.
