the annual meeting of the Ontario
Association of Counselling and
Attendance Services which is
being held this year in Huron
County at the Centralia College of
Agricultural Technology on June
5, 6, 7 and 8,
On these dates Attendance
Counsellors from all parts of
Ontario, will be "in school" to
participate in seminars bang
conducted by some of the most
capable Doctors, Phsycologists,
and Social Workers from various
cities in Ontario,
The Attendance Counselling
field has experienced some
drastic changes over the last few
years under the capable
leadership of Orville Watson,
Provincial Attendance Coun-
sellor. Some of the main
priorities of this field as laid out
by the Provincial organization
are:
(a) To ensure and improve the
attendance of students through
an understanding of the un-
derlying causes for their ab-
sences. In so doing, to fulfill the
legal mandate set out for the
attendance counsellor in The
Education Act, 1974,
ch.i To assist in maintaining a
child in school once the causes
have been determined.
(c) To provide counselling,
home visiting and liaison ser-
vices where problems of students
are symptonized by emotional
social, academic and behaviour.
This function is conducted in
addition to the attendance
oriented problem.

against self-neglect, parental
indifference and ' adult ex-
ploitation,

contest and a paper airplane
throwing contest.
Snowmobile race preliminary
heats will be held in the morning
with the fipals set for 3 p.m.
Activities between 1 and 3 p.m.
will include road hockey,
snowshoe races, board races and
powder puff football for the
outdoor enthusiasts and indoor
events will be cake baking and
pie eating contests and an event
where contestants eat crackers
and then blow up balloons. A
casino will also be set up in the
old gym ,
From 7 to 8.30 Saturday
evening a Gong type talent show
will be held in the old gym while
a concert featuring Triumph will
begin in the new gym at 9 p.m.
A coffee house will be set up
Friday evening and throughout
the day Saturday in the hallway
near the cafeteria.
Sunday will feature two
showings of the top notch movie
"One Flew Over The Cuckoo's
Nest." They begin at 1,30 and 3.45
p.m.

The annual Winter Carnival at
South Huron District High School
will be held this weekend. The
student council under the
direction of president Phil Knight
has lined up a full venue of ac-
