Two suffer broken legs
Three injured on highways
These adverse weather con-
ditions have disrupted more than
road conditions etc., it also
caused the postponement of a
few legion events.
The new date for the annual
childrens snow vehicle party is
Saturday, February 5 starting
at 1:00 p.m. One of the main
reasons for this change was the
extreme cold and the operators of
the machines were busy doing
,rerra nclspf, mercy. It was so cold a
few of the operators got frostbite
especially to their face -now you
can imagine what would have
happened to a youngster riding
into that cold wind.
So children of Lucan and area
get dressed up warmly and come
on over to the Legion for snow
vehicle rides and to try and keep
you warm hot chocolate and hot
dogs will be served.
Carl McNaughton, a master
with the old time fiddling, will be
in the Legion Lounge,Saturday
evening, February 5 to entertain
you. Make it a point to attend
your Legion and bring along a
guest couple. We feel sure you will
all enjoy the friendly at-
mosphere.
The often postponed hockey
meeting will be held at the Lucan
Legion at 8:00 p.m. Monday,
February 7. All parents and
residents interested in Lucan
Legion sponsored hockey are
urged to attend. We have a good
hockey program and with your
assistance we can make it better.
See you there.
Branch 540's regular general
meeting will be held on Wed-
nesday February 9 commencing
at 8:30 p.m This is your Branch -
attend the meetings this is
where you can have your say on
-"how yOtt *alit it rim.' Nomina tiOnS
for your 1977-78 officers will soon
be taking place. Please give this
some thought also.
Sunday, February 20 is the date
of the Lucan Legion bowling
party at the Lucan Lanes and is
open to all legion members and
their guests. Remember this is
just a fun match and there will
be no packed teams,
Team captains are appointed
and their teams are drawn out of
a hat. Starting time 1:00 p.m.
Following the games all par-
ticipants will return to the Legion
Hall for a POT LUCK SUPPER.
Sounds Like Fun? You want to
believe it,make it a point to be
present.
And that's 30 for this week
remember --Mankind is fast
learning how to do everything but
how to take care of itself.
Three serious injuries resulted
from the multitude of accidents
which occurred in the area
patrolled by the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial
Police during the severe storm
over the weekend.
In similar mishaps Leo Morkin,
RR3, Lucan, Judy Duddy,
Dorchester and Ken Walker,
London were injured when they
were pinned between vehicles
when their own cars become
snowbound and they got out to
investigate.
Lots of milk
at Clandeboye
Due to the storm the Clan-
deboye Athletic Association was
forced to cancel their dance at
the Kirkton -Woodham Com-
munity Centre Saturday evening.
They hope to reschedule this at a
later date.
Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Raycraft left
Tuesday for California where
they will visit with Mrs.
Raycrafts relatives for at least a
month.
The A.C.W. of St. James
Anglican Church will sponsor a
euchre party February 10 in the
church basement.
Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson who
is a patient at the Bluewater Rest
Home at Zurich will celebrate her
96th birthday on February 10.
Best wishes are extended to her
from the Clandeboye Com-
munity.
Many dairy farmers on the
Concession roads are having
trouble disposing of their milk.
Trucks are unable to get through
the snow filled roads.
At time of writing John De
Weerd and Bill Dixon are waiting
anxiously for snow plows to reach
them and let the milk trucks
through to empty the many
containers holding their surplus
milk,
Mr. Morkin is a patient in
University Hospital London
suffering from two fractured
legs, Mrs. Duddy was taken to St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, also
with two broken legs.
Mr. Walker suffering severe
shoulder and hip injuries is
recovering at University
Hospital.
The Morkin mishap occurred
on Highway 4, near Concession 14
in London township and Mrs.

School near Arva was injured on

AlLSA CRAIG
What happens in a small village
when people can't go anywhere,
the mail doesn't come in , and
motorists are stranded? In Ailsa
Craig something unexpected!
Battling the stormy weather on
their way home from Sarnia to
Kitchener last Friday during the
storm,Don, Glen, and Joe Gully
stopped in at ,McNair's
Restaurant in Ailsa Craig for a
bite to eat. Weather conditions
worsened and made their im-
mediate departure impossible
as a result their visit gave rise
to an impromptu "Ailsa Craig
happening".
Employed in construction
work, all three were talented
musicans. To fill in the long hours
away from home while on the job,
the three carry their instruments
with them wherever they go.
When this was realized by Doug
and Eileen McNair, who were
offering the Gully's along with
other stranded motorists
hospitality, phones immediately
Constable G. J. Barker of the
Lucan OPP detachment said
most of the 46 accidents occurred
Friday. He said the first was
reported at 11 a.m. and by 7.32
p,m. the total had risen to 24.
Four Friday accidents were
reported Saturday and three
more came to light Sunday.
Constable Barker said a total of
68 cars were towed out of
snowbanks along area highways.
He added, "If your car is still
missing take a look at Van
Bommell's in Ilderton, Clan-
deboye Auto Wreckers or Don
Smith's or Tom England's in
Lucan,"
started ringing!
The town hall was rented and
the stormed in village and its
guests were invited to come out
and here the Gully Brothers in an
impromptu musical evening.
About forty quickly accepted the
invitation and the evening proved
not only successful, but a village
highlight.
A collection was taken to help
defray expenses and net profit of
$25 has been turned over to the
community centre finance
committee, •
The three brothers, who by the
way, come from a family of
thirteen, followed a snow plow
out Saturday morning. For two of
them it was their first time ever
to visit Ailsa Craig, but many
new friendships were made at
this point.
The McNairs also hosted a
salesman from Woodstock who
has stopped in town, and
other families had called to offer
hospitality to anyothers known to
be stranded.
