40 Fete Granton lodge veteran;

By MRS. E, SUMMERS
pRANTON
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted the
Sundily morning service and took
his sermon from the s,2ripture
lesson Genesis 45, 16-28, and
entitled it "Seeing the wagons,"
Words have power, but deeds
have greater power, said Rev,
Morden. Only when • Jacob saw
the wagons that Joseph had sent,
back to Canaan with his brothers
to bring his family to Egypt did
Jacob believe his son Joseph was
alive. Seeing the wagons at our
barvesttime remindsus that there
is a living God.
Arden Bryan and Martin Drost
two young people from the
congregation gave a very in-
formative report on their at-
tendance as delegates to the
T.O.C. Alpha Conference held at
the Sheridan Fox Hotel in
Niagara Falls,
The purpose of this conference
was to encourage young people to
become aware of themselves,
At St, Thomas Anglican
Church Rev. Mary Mills con-
ducted the morning prayer, and
took her sermon from the Gospel
of St. Matthew, Chapter 8, 1-13,
This related to the Gospel story of
the healing of the leper, and also
the Centurion's servant.
UCW executive meet
Members of the Granton UCW
executive met at the home of the
president Mrs. Robert Hardie
Wednesday evening to plan the
year's activities.
It was decided to have another
bazaar in the fall, which would be
again in charge of Unit 3, with the
other Units and youth groups
such as the C.G.I.T., Explorers,
and cubs operating their own
booths.
This project proved a great
success last year. Mrs. Douglas
Brown leader of Unit 3 reported
that her unit had purchased the
paint and had finished painting
the church basement.
Also that they would like to be
able to put new curtains up so it
was decided that the members of
Unit 3, buy the curtains and the
general UCW would pay for
them.
Mrs. Cliff Cook of the Manse
Cotnmittee reported that there
was still one bedroom to be
decorated at the Manse, so a
decison was made that the
Granton UCW would be finan-
cially responsible for this project,
