Just over 26 years ago Sadie

The regular meeting of the
Trivitt ACW was held Tuesday in
the Parish Hall of Trivitt
Memorial Church.
A pancake supper was planned
for February 22. The World Day
of Prayer will be held at Trivitt
on March 4,
There will be a euchre and bake
sale date to be announced. A
visiting committee was formed
with Mrs. George and Miss
Bissett in charge,
Mrs. Anderson using a flannel-
graph gave a very interesting
talk on the Bible.

was not alarmed, thinking it was
only a temporary' side affect of
what the doctor had diagnosed a
few days earlier as the flu.
Her thoughts soon began to
change after repeated attempts
to move from bed, "I began to
think to myself of the possibility
that the trouble was caused by
polio and not the flu, but I kept
telling myself that polio was a
kid's disease", said Sadie.
Her husband Jack not willing to
take any chances phoned the
doctor, who came immediately.
After a quick examination he was
almost certain it was polio.
"I remember when I was told.
My whole body was suddenly
gripped with fear, Questions
without answers flashed through
my mind. What about my son? He
was only three at the time. Who
would take care of him? Would I
ever be able to walk again?"
It was almost a year before
some of these questions could be
answered. During this time
Sadie repeatedly baffled the
doctors by accomplishing things
they thought impossible.
When she returned home the
biggest task was proving to
people that she could take care of
herself, her son, her husband and
the household. The task was a big
one, but within no time she was
cleaning house, cooking and
doing all those things that a
young mother has to do. Her son
was always ready to help in the
kitchen and by the age of five he
could cook a tasty full course
meal,

vegetables and fruits of her
garden.
Just recently she became a
grandmother and like any other
she was happy to take.on the job
of babysitting for a few weeks,
"It took a few adjustments
because I hadn't prepared bottles
or changed diapers for years, but
I enjoyed every minute",
claimed Sadie.
She is active in #le community,
holding Stanley product
demonstrations, raising money
for the church through the sale of
flower bulbs and helping disabled
adults by organizing the Ontario
March of Dimes campaign in
Ailsa Craig.
The Ontario March of Dimes
campaign is certainly one of her
favourite projects because it has
worked for her and she knows it
will continue to work for others
like her.
