Southcott challenges council decision
pertunity, at least two days
before the meeting to provide us
with the Minutes and other public
documents that we have
requested in writing, and for
which we have agreed to pay the
exorbitant charges levied by
Council,
If Council feels that a special
meeting is required for this
discussion - and I would welcome
that approach - I do not believe it
would be fair to. charge our firm
for the costs of the meeting,
which are principally the salaries
of yourself and members of
Council, However, if Council.
insists on this policy, even when
the special meeting obviously is
in the interests of all the
ratepayers of the Village, then
our firm reluctantly will pay
these costs.
This meeting is requested not
for the benefit of our firm or
myself - because obviously there
are higher tribunals to which we
can appeal for justice ( and which
process may be in fact the only
possible way of exposing this
deliberate unfairness of Council)
but quite specifidally for the
purpose of allowing any in-
terested ratepayer of the Village
to judge for himself the approach
that Council has taken to these'
matters.
In order to give you time to
discuss fully this request
amongst yourselves, and to
consult your legal advisor(s), I
du not request a reply until
January 31,1977, It is only fair to
advise you, however, that if I do
not receive a reply by January 31,
I shall exercise my privilege of
pursuing these matters in the
appropriate courts of law,

A steering committee to look
into recreation facilities for
Severn Park near Grand Bend
has been formed by the Grand
Bend Lions Club. Pat Soldan of
the Lions is the chairman of the
committee.
-Mr.. Soldan, informed Grand
Bend council Tuesday evening
the Lions have tried to get a
cross-section of the community
involved in the steering com-
mittee and will begin holding
meetings within the next week or
so.
Members of the committee
include Pat Soldan and Paul
Johnson from the Lions club; Roy.
Harris from the recreation,
committee; Annie Kadelecik ,
from the Lioness Club, Tony '
Relouw from the Van Dongen
Subdivision; Bill Harwood from
the Chamber of Commerce; Bob
Sharen from the Grand Bend
council plus a representative
from Bosanquet township council
as soon as one is chosen. Dave
Nelder is the secretary for the
committee.
Mr, Soldan told council the first
meeting will be held within the
next couple of weeks and will be
an orientation meeting only.
Following this there will be a
series of public meetings at
which any interested parties in
the community may present
briefs on exactly what recreation
facilities they would like to see in
Severn Park.
The steering committee will
also hold private meetings to
discuss and evaluate all briefs
placed before them in order to,
determine exactly what the
desires of the community are and
what the priorities in the line of
recreation facilities should be.
Deputy reeve Bob Simpson
expressed enthusiasm over the
formation of the committee but
urged the Lions to move slowly so
as not to get themselves into
problems.
"We (council) don't even have
the property yet" said Mr.
Simpson, "so let's be sure not to
get too far ahead of yourselves
until the land has actually been
turned over to council."

Council gives reply .
Grand Bend council decided
Tuesday to inform Don
Southcott that all council
meetings are open to the
public and if he wishes to at-
tend a meeting he need only
inform the clerk of his wishes
the Thursday before the
meeting and his name will be
placed on the agenda.
Council was responding to
the letter from Southcott re-
questing they hold a special
public meeting to discuss coun-
cil's attitude toward his
proposed Sherwood develop-
ment in Grand Bend and invite
all the residents of Green Acres
to attend,
Deputy reeve Bob Simpson
said Southcott should be in-
formed council will not issue in-
vitations to anyone to attend o
council meeting concerning the
development, but if Mr.
Southcott wishes to do so, that
is up to him.
According to Reeve Bob
Sharen, the council is pro
development but they are fin-
ding it difficult to deal with
someone "who swings a big
stick at us before he talks to
us,"
"Whenever we deal with
Mr. Southcott it winds up he
sends letters to the press first
and then to us. We've more im-
portant things to do than fight
in the newspapers,"

They said they would deal with
other members of his firm.
Ina letter on December 28 to
Clerk Louise Clipperton, the
developer said he had read with
amusement—but more disap-
pointment—the press rebuttal to
his letter of December 13.
"Without going into the obvious
falsehoods in this rebuttal, I must
challenge council's apparent
decision to refuse to deal with
myself on the several matters
under question," he wrote. He
went on to say that their
preference to deal with other
members of his firm is un-
Sherwood property. Further, I
ask that:
(a) the meeting be open to the
public,
(b) the residents of Green
Acres be invited to attend,
(c) Council permit us to record
the meeting in order to
discourage further
misrepresentation;
(d) that at least two weeks
written notice be given to us of
the date of the meeting, and
(e) that the Clerk has an op-

Grand Bend developer Don
Southcott has threatened to seek
action in "the appropriate courts
of law" if Grand Bend council fail
to set up a public meeting to
discuss their differences with
In December, the president and
general manager of Southcott
Pines charged council with a
"breach of courtesy" in
discussing matters persuant to a

while he was out of town.
The discussion in question was
held with residents of Green

Acres on the planned develop-
ment of Sherw000d property by
Southcott Pines.
Council replied by denying any
breach of courtesy, noting that
they had informed Southcott of
the meeting. Members of the
resort council suggested that the
breach of courtesy Was on South-
cott's part as he failed to reply in
time for his letter to reach
council prior to the meeting,
After outlining several other
rebuttals to Southeott's
allegations, council advised they
would no longer deal with him.
derstandable "because, while
the other members are capable,
they simply do not have the
background to deal with the
deceitful misrepresentation that
council has perpetrated or
condoned,"
His letter to council continues
as follows:
I therefore request, before
proceeding to legal action, that
Council meet with me at any
convenient time to discuss fully
the questions that have arisen
over recent months, and, par-
ticularly, the ludicrous position
Council has taken in regard to the
