SUMMERS GRANTON New Year's Eve Dance There was a good attendance at the New Year's Eve Dance, in spite of the severe weather conditions. This was held in the Forester's Hall and sponsored by the Granton . Community Recreation Association. Cub news The Granton Cubs and Explorers visited the Wildwood Nursing Home near St. Mary s on the Sunday afternoon before `Christmas, They sang carols and brought a basket of fruit for the patients. These youth groups were accompanied by their leaders Mrs. Martin Van- derminnen, Mrs. Robert Harloff, Mrs. Gordon McRobert, Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred Riddell and Mr. & Mrs. Micheal O'Shea. Firemen entertain area children The volunteer Firemen's Association entertained the older children with a hayride and the small fry with a Christmas party while the others were on the ride on Wednesday evening December 22.Later everybody enjoyed a visit from Santa with gifts and treats. , , A very Happy New Year to all. Church news At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden conducted the morning service, and entitled his sermon "Greeting the New Year," May the New Year ever hopeful, in its promkse so bright, lift your heart so every shadow will reveal a guiding light. For with every Christmas season and with every bright New Year there is always happy wishes for new hope, new love and cheer, said the minister. Do not fear tomorrow God already there, Secretaries and leaders of the various organizations were requested to have their reports handed in not later than January 6. It was,reportederroneously that the Sacrement of Holy Com- munion would be observed January 2, instead of Sunday January 9, at the United Church. The morning service at St. Thomas Anglican Church was cancelled owing to the in- disposition of the priest Rev. Mary Mills who was suffering from influenza. Personals Sympathy is extended to the relatives of the late Carlton Ridley, a former resident of Granton, who passed away in St. Mary s Memorial Hospital Saturday January 1, 1977 in his 90th year. Misses Maria and Eveline Vanderminnen have returned home after visiting relatives in Holland for the holiday season. Miss Rona Hickey has returned home to Toronto, after spending Christmas and New Year's with Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and family. Walter Gowan of Windsor Ontario spent the Christmas holidays with his sister and her husband, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford McRobert, Frank Campbell of Strathmere Lodge Strathroy spent the holidays with Mrs. Elsie Dann, David Roloson was a member of a group of Medway High School students who visited Cuba for the Christmas week. Tom Ross of Regina Saskat- chewan was home for Christmas. David Garrett hag' returned from visiting his sister Dorothy who is a nurse in Clearwater Florida, Mrs, George Squire spent Christmas Day with her son Mr. Harry Squire and family.
