The speed of their forwards and the accuracy of the West Lorne attack had the Exeter defense baffled through most of the game. More times than not the Gould leads Adventurers to 5-0 win It was the battle of the local atom teams in soccer this week, as the Adventurers and Spitfires took one another on in league action with the Adventurers taking a 5-0 decision. Although the game was evenly played, the more experienced Adventurers held the upper hand over the Spitfires who played strong positional soccer. The big man for the Adven- turers was Steve Gould who came up with three consecutive goals in the game, sandwiched between a goal apiece to Steve Laithwaite and Andrew Winters. Derek De Haan, in his first full game in goal, picked up the shutout, milinnaminnunimunminuanninumo.r. ; ADAMS I Heating & Cooling E.: • Heating Systems of `All Types INSTALLED, MODERNIZED and MAINTAINED • General Sheet. Exeter came from behind twice in the game on goals by Hoffman to tie Clinton and once again be on even terms. It was at this stage that the Fords began looking like the team of the Royals shutout Parkhill, squeak by West Corners previous week where positional play proved the deciding factor. Richard Helm, now right half, was in position to give Exeter its go ahead goal of the game, a beautiful goal that nicked the underside of the bar as it drove home. Working as the captian of the team and organizing the plays helped Hoffman score his hat-trick. Exeter was now in Exeter goaltender was one-on- one with an opposing attacker and in soccer this should never happen. The Centennials were not without chances on the West Lorne net. Three times the Exeter forwards had the ball near the goal and three times the ball sailed out of bounds or hit the goal post. It was that kind of a day. The ball would not bounce right for the Exeter squad, but all the blame can't be placed on luck. The lack of certain key players and the absence of a will to come from behind hurt the Centennials chances of keeping the score close. The Centennials will be in tournament play for the next couple of weeks, with a break for the July 1 weekend. command in midfield with Wayne Smith and Murray Heywood playing strong games. In the second half Steve Wells, inside left, scored his first goal of the season. Bradley Scott 'skimmed the bar on a header and was then thwarted in a break away by the Clinton goalie. The final score of the game came as just reward to the player of the week, Doug Hoffman, who had bberf' engineering iinselfisb chances for the other team members,as helscored hisifourth goal of the game. Hoffman has now played six games and scored in all six with his goal tally at nine goals for the year. The Royals opened the scoring in the last of the second when Scott Burton doubled to left field. Brian Hodgins then walked and Paul McKnight singled, Ron Mason and Jim Pfaff both walked and then Doug Pearson double chased home three runs, The Royals added two runs in the fifth inning as Terry Bourne led off with tremendous blast to left centre field that went for a homerun. Burton then reached on an error and singles by Hodgins and Ron Mason sent Burton home. The Royals again added a run in the sixth as Doug Pearson singled and scored on Terry Bournes single, Pearson and Bourne led the Royals hitters as Pearson collected two singles and two walks and Bourne had a single and a homerun, Brian Hodgins was on the mound for the Royals and turned in a strong effort as he struck out 9 batters and limited Parkhill to 4 singles to take the win! The Royals edged West Cor- ners Sunday night in Exeter 3-1. The game was well played and turned out to be a pitchers duel as Blair Stewart of West Corners and Hodgins of the Royals allowed very few base runners. The Royals scored their 3 runs in the bottom of the first when Jack Glover led off and reached on an error. Doug Pearson then Skinner, Watson top jitneys Laverne Skinner and Wes Watson took top honors in the two jitneys staged this week by the Exeter lawn bowling club. Skinner won the Saturday night event with two wins a plus of 14 and aggregate of 28 to narrowly edge Clarence Down. Harold Simpson placed third and following in order behind him were Edna Caldwell, Lawrence Wein, Ruth Skinner, Flub Willoughby, Lillian Pym and Wilfred Shapton. In Tuesday night play, Watson had two wins a plus of 17 and aggregate of 32. Stan Mitchell was in second and Marguerite Orr placed third. Following the leaders were Charlie Hendy, Leone Brock and Liz Lamporl, hit a long triple to score Glover. Pearson. then scored as Barry Baynham doubled. Baynham came in to score on newcomer Pete Glover's single. The score remained 3-0 until the top of the fifth when Tom Bullock hit a long home run to left field. Blair Stewart toiled for West Corners and outside of the first inning was flawless. Barry Baynham had a double and a single while Glover's single and Pearson's triple were the only other hits for the Royals. Brian Hodgins went the distance for the Royals giving up just two hits while striking out nine batters. The Royals next home game will be June 24 against Nairn. Game time is 9 o'clock. Silcock leads Huron cricket Due to rain and bad light on' Saturday, only the four first round games were completed in the 1976 Imperial Junior Cricket Trophy held at Windsor over the weekend. The final play-off games have been re-scheduled for June 26 and 27. In first round play, Waterloo defeated Sarnia by 3 wickets, Welland County beat Sault Ste. Marie by 38 runs, and Hamilton downed Toronto East by 10 runs. The biggest shock of the round saw the strongly fancied host team Windsor lose a close ex- citing game to the newly formed Huron County Club. Windsor batted first, scoring 104 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with some outstanding all round fielding by the Huron team keeping the hosts at bay. With only one over remaining, the visitors still needed 10 runs for victory, which they got with only 2 balls to spare. Fine batting performances came from Cap- tain Jim Aston Jnr. (31), Peter Weekes (27), both of Exeter, and Euan Renjamin (20 not out) of Goderich. Waterloo coached by Silas Singh; whose seasons record is 9 and 2, will face Huron County under Dave Silcock (4-0). Hamilton coached by Vic Mon- .,teith (7-3) will take on Welland County and Chris Henry (8-2). 4 The. two winner's will then battle it out for the Imperial Trophy, with the two losers facing off for the 3rd place award.
