This, the largest yearly Canadian sailboat race on Lake Huron has attracted a record number of entries. Fifty to sixty yachts ranging in size from 22 feet to 44 feet in length will be rendezvousing at Grand Bend for the July 1st start. The entrants will be representing the following Yacht Clubs, Bark Shanty, Bayfield, Goderich, Sarnia, Port Huron and Grand Bend, all members of the newly formed Lake Huron Yachting Association. The race starts at 9;30 a,m, July 1st, 1976 from Grand Bend. The first leg of the race is in a South Westerly direction to a marker off Kettle Point and then the participants will change course North West across Lake Huron to a marker just off Port Sanilac in Michigan where they will• turn North Easterly and again cross the lake to Goderich, Ontario. The final leg will be South to Bayfield where the race will finish. This Bayfield finish • name cluillGood companions„will enable the participating yachtsmen and their families to enjoy Bayfield's centennial celebrations which will take place July 1-2-3-4. The race course totals 100 nautical miles, which are sailed non stop. The Grand Bend Yacht Club, hosts of the Labatt's 100, have instituted numerous safety requirements and in addition the Canadian coast guard cutter "Rapid" will be following the fleet as an escort vessel in case of emergencies. A second escort vessel "Cactus Flower" Funeral services were held Friday for Mrs. Ida (Webb) Turnbull who passed away Wednesday, June 9 at South Huron Hospital, Exeter, in her 79th year, She is survived by her husband, Max Turnbull, one daughter, Elva, Mrs. Lloyd Lam port, of Crediton, three sons, Jack of RR 1, Dashwood, Robert of Walkerton, and Fred of New Orleans. Three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Stebbins, Grand Bend, Mrs. Wilmer McLinchey, Parkhill and Mrs. Ralph privately owned out.of Sarnia will act as a back up. In this test of seamanship and navigation, Labatt's Ontario Breweries have awarded numerous trophies for the win- ners of their divisions under the MORC and IOR rule handicaps, Spectators who wish to see the start of the race should be at Grand Bend Thursday July 1st at approximately 9 a.m. and the finish will be at Bayfield with the first yachts arriving ap- proximately 24 hours later. Williams, Port Huron, Michigan, two brothers, Stewart of Grand Bend and Milton of London, and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive, Pallbearers were Elgin Hen- drick, Carl Turnbull, Ed Turn- bull, Wayne Miller, Larry Luther and Lloyd Fahner. Rev. Harley Moore officiated and interment was at Grand Bend cemetery. The Eastern Star ladies held a memorial service for Mrs. Turnbull Thursday evening at Hoffman's funeral home. Area woman passes • By MRS. IRVIN RADER DASH WOOD The Senior Citizens held a picnic June 14, with 32 present. Following supper, the president, Mervyn Tieman presided for the business. They decided to name the club "Good Companions". A schedule of four groups was set up to be in charge of future meetings. A zone picnic will be held in Clan Gregor Square, Bayfield, July 18. Each club is to provide one or two numbers for the program. Registration is 3 p.m. with a fee of 50 cents with supper at 5 oclock. Each one is to bring their own lunch, dishes, cutlery, beverage and a chair. Anyone wishing tranportation is to let the secretary know in advance. A fee schedule was set up for the club. Bingo followed with the following winners: Mrs. E.R. Guenther, Mrs. 0. Todd, Mrs. Hilda Wein, Mrs. Letta Taylor, Ken McCrae, Mrs. Ross Love, Mrs. Flossie Willert, Mrs. Florence Keller, Harold Carroll, Mrs. Martha Miller, Mrs. Jessie Rader and Mrs. Eben Weigand. UCW meeting The Christian Citizenship and Social action group with Mrs. • Ebeh Weigand, chairman, was in Odrge of the June meeting of Calvary United church UCW meeting. A responsive reading, was followed by prayer by Mrs. Mildred Kellerman, Mrs. Don Weigand sang, "No Man is an Island" accompanied by Mrs. C. Kennedy. Rev. Moore, Grand Bend, showed pictures of England and Scotland that were most in- teresting. President, Mrs. Mervyn Tieman conducted the business. Roll call was answered by 20 members. The Christian Women's Association will meet at the Village Inn June 25, The Sunshine Committee is Mrs. J.M. Tieman and Mrs. Greta Schade. Mrs. Lorne Becker and Mrs. Amiel Fischer are patients in St. Joseph's hospital, London. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Liebold, Jeanette and John Paul, Strat- ford, spent the weekend with Lorne Becker and Wayne and visited with Mrs. Becker. Mr. & Mrs. Art Haugh, London, ' spent a few days with Mrs. Cora Gaiser last week. Special prizes were presented to Susan Weiberg, youngest person; Mrs. Adeline Kraft, oldest person; Mrs. Hilda Rader, listing most Raders; walking contest, Mrs, Idella Schultz; birthday nearest, Mrs. Helen Wagner, Ruth Wentzell. President, Ray Rader presided at the supper table. Mrs. Garnet Weiberg and her committee were in charge of the bountiful meal. Officers appointed were president, Ray Taylor; vice- president, Bill Wagner; secretary, Mrs. Hilda Rader; treasurer, Dave Rader; sports committee, Ernie and Sheila Miller; table convener, Mrs. Ray Rader, The next picnic will be held the second Sunday in June, 1978, at Dashwood community centre with the secretary sending out invitations. Mrs. Helen Grieves, Mrs. Ken McCrae, Mrs. Letta Taylor, and Mrs. Ross Love attended an Open House for Barbara Filson, Ilderton, Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Lotti Sexton, Bir- mingham, Michigan, spent some :ime with Della Tomlinson last week also visiting with Mr. & Mrs. Larry Wein and. Jason. Mrs. Henry taglesork, Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Wolfe, 'Mr; St Ralph Weber and Mr. & Mrs. Bill 'Weber attended the Eagleson- Greathead wedding at Southampton Friday eyeing. The' groom is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Eagleson. Sunday School picnic Calvary United church held their Sunday school picnic June 13, with the superintendent, Bob Hoffman in charge. Winners in the various events were: kindergarten, Randy Hoffman and Kim Hoffman; primary, Doug Schade and Lyn Gaiser; grade 4-6, Trevor Boyle and Faye Gaiser; seniors, Don Beaver and Bonnie Nauss. Ladies Aid Ladies Aid group 2 with co- conveners Mrs. Ray Rader and Mrs. Charles Martene was in charge of the June meeting of Zion Lutheran Ladies' Aid. President, Mrs. Arnold Becker, opened the meeting with the singing of a hymn followed by a Pentecost prayer, Fourteen members and two visitors were present, one of which joined the Aid. The Altar Guild reported 20 visits, 11 treats and one phone call. The new Guild is Mrs. Erna Schroeder and Mrs. Arnold Becker. The Aid will be in charge of treats for the Vacation Bible School. A bake sale will be held in July. New carpet for the church entrance will be bought and donation was made to the Leprosy Mission. Mrs. Ray Rader and Mrs. -Charles Martene• took for the topic, "What Faith is". Various phases .of faith were discussed with Bible reading to explain. Mrs. Earl Keller has closing Devotions Personals Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Tieman spent Sunday at St. Thomas with Mr. & Mrs. Bob 'Stormes and family. Mr. & Mrs. Wellwood Gill, Grand Bend and Mrs, Marjorie Knight, London, were Tuesday visitors with Mrs. Irvin Rader. Mr. & Mrs. Dick Wiens and Andrea, Waterloo, spent a few days with Mr. & Mrs. Albert Miller last week. Mr. & Mrs. Aaron Restemayer and Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Wolfe spent a week at Inverlocky. The weather was perfect and fishing good. Mr. & Mrs. Spike Nagel, Susan and Chris Baynham, Oshawa, spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Koehler and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Hayter and family. Sandra Riddell was in charge of the guest book. Receiving guests with Debbie were her mother, Leone Riddell, and the groom's mother Grace Miller. Brenda Miller and Brenda Riddell invited the guests to see the gifts. Displaying the gifts and trousseau were Judy Miller, Joanne Miller, Debbie Love, Cathy McVety, and Donna Riddell, Susan Rader and Heather Riddell showed the wedding gifts, Mrs. Lois Ford and Mrs. Betty Riddell invited the guests to the tea room where Mrs. Alice Bryan, Mrs, Dorothy Riddell, Mrs. Olive Rowe and Mrs. Anna VanWyck poured tea. Assisting in the tea room were Mrs. Joanne Swan, Barbara Ford and Mrs, Ginger Weber. Helpers in the kitchen included Mrs. Florence Bryan, Mrs. Lottie Jones, Mrs, Marg Love and Mrs. Gwen Dyck- man. Leone and Debbie were very grateful for the many guests and gifts. Rader Reunion The 24th Rader Reunion was held June 13 with 97 present. Mr. & Mrs. Jeffery Haywood and family, London, opened the sports with a scramble for the little ones. Winners in the various races were Karen Miller, Brenda Racier, Beth McGregor and Wayne Weiberg.
