The worship service was in charge of Mrs. Ross Pickering's group, with the Explorers and their leaders as guests, Mrs. Don Finkbeiner, the leader of the group, was assisted by Mrs. Hank Brand, Mrs. John Stewart and Mrs. Eldon Smith, Mrs. Pickering welcomed the Explorers who introduced themselves and provided for the women present a delightful program of songs, skits and readings. Valerie Finkbeiner accompanied the singing on the piano. Certificates were given to eight new members, and perfect at- tendance awards to six. A gift was presented to two former graduates who had assisted during the year. Mrs. Finkbeiner outlined the purpose, motto, prayer and hymn of the group, and the work ac- complished during the year. The final project was the planting of shrubs beside the church bulletin board. Lunch was served by Mrs. Gordon Finkbeiner, Mrs. Douglas Gill, Mrs. Lorne Preszcator, Mrs. Ray Morlock, Mrs. Russell Finkbeiner, Mrs, Cliff Russell and Mrs. Pickering, A business session was con- ducted by Mrs. Cliff Russell. Arrangements were made for serving at a wedding, and at Vacation Bible School. The group will reconvene in September, Sunday was Confirmation day in Zion United Church, 13 members of the class that had studied under Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce for many weeks joined the church. Their names are: Valerie Finkbeiner, Heather and Robin Little, Jane Pickering, Linda Pierce, Darrell and Dennis Preszcator, Kathy Russell, Mary Schlenker, Barbara and Paul Wein, Tami. Lee and Teri Lynn Witherspoon. Three joined by letter of transfer: Mr. & Mrs, Robert Ball and Mrs. Larry Brownlee. The session and congregation welcomed the new members and shared in the celebration of communion, Harry Schroeder read the Scripture lesson during the service. Tami Lee and Teri Lynn Witherspoon, Barbara Ratz and Brenda Neil acted as ushers. Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce were in Woodstock Monday evening to present their talk on Western Canada at the United Church there. Persona Is Mr. John Sims is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. We wish him a speedy recovery. Cheryl Wein returned home Wednesday from St. Joseph's Hospital, London after having her tonsils removed. Fred Sims returned home Tuesday after being a patient in Toronto hospital for the past 5 weeks. The lovely arrangements decorated the tables for lunch. The members of the Sunshine Group enjoyed the usual euchre games with the prizes going to Olive Atkinson, Lady's high; Helen Thompson, Lady's lone; Harold Cobleigh, Man's high and Benny Kelly Man's lone. During the brief business session, chaired by president, Muriel Cobleigh it was an- nounced that flowers and a card had been sent to Harold Egan who is ill in hospital. Mrs. Cobleigh asked that members get Church news On Sunday members of the Lucan United Church celebrated their 114th anniversry. At the 11:15 service, Jim Stanley a lay-preacher and former missionary in Senegal, was the guest speaker. Mr. Stanley applied Paul's message to Titus, for our use in today's world. Mrs. Madden led in a hymn- sing and the choir, directed by Paul K ight, sang "I Will Call Upon the Lord" by Mozart. At the evening service, those present received a musical blessing and a great spiritual uplift when Albert E. Furntey, brought the Dundas Songsters of Dundas Street Centre UC to present "Natural High", a Folk Musical about Christ. The chorus, the solo voices and the musical accompaniment of piano, guitar and percussion were all beautiful and those members and friends not present, really missed a won- derful evening. Sunday, June 20th there will be another treat in store for the members and friends of the church when the Dedication to Mission Service, for all groups will be held. Lynn Knight of Kintore granddaughter of Mrs, Frank Hardy, Sr„ a member of the Youth program 50th an- niversary, will tell of her visit to India where she was a guest with a native family. Members of the Church School, the Explorers, CGIT, Youth Group, UCW Couples' Fellowship and those individuals with per- sonal mission projects, will share in the Dedication to Mission Ceremony. You are invited. Next Sunday the Church School will share in the Annual Plower Sunday by attending and singing as a group and in reading the scriptures and ushering. The theme will be presented through a 'chalk talk'. All parents and friends are particularly invited to this beautiful service, their money in as soon as possible for the trip to the Huron Country Playhouse, in order that the executive would know how many tickets could be sold to non- members. Edythe Murdy was welcomed as a new member and guests included Kay Simpson and Ellen Collins from Ailsa Craig and Cliff Law from Dearness Home, London. The Fair Booth was discussed briefly and it was announced that Mrs. Tuke was contributing a lovely Afghan, with the Club purchasing the wool, on which tickets will be sold. All members are invited to Lucan Women's Institute Members of the Lucan Women's Institute held a sale of home baking in the Masonic Lodge, Saturday afternoon. Members and friends are reminded of the annual Bus Trip - this time one of "Mystery" - on June 16, leaving Holy Trinity Anglican Church at 8:30 a.m. The bus is full but if you wish your name on the waiting list, please phone 227-4714 today.
