PREPARING FOR OPENING— Tom Creech of Exeter (foreground), Gary Thompson,
and Willis Steeper, employees for the Ausable-Bayfield Con servation Authority, were busy
last week preparing for the Opening of the new Port Blake Conservation Area, located just
south of the intersection of High ways 21 and 83 along the shores of Lake Huron. The Authority held
the official opening ceremonies on Wednesday.

Kay Davis, bride-elect of this
month, was honoured at a
miscellaneous shower at the
home of her aunt, Mrs. Drew
Fowler, London. She was the
recipient of many beautiful gifts.
Mrs. J. Duchworth, Goderich and
Mrs. Fowler were in charge of
contests.
Mary Ann Rathwell Hayfield
and Karen Campbell, Hensall
presented the guest of honour
with the gifts. A delicious lun-
cheon was served by the
hostesses. Guests attended from
Hensall, London, Goderich,
Hayfield, Clinton, Exeter and
Michigan.

News
The WMS of Carmel
Presbyterian Church, en-
tertained as their guests at their
birthday party Monday the ladies
of Cromarty Presbyterian church
and members of the United
Church and Lutheran church,
Zurich, also the Arnold Circle and
associate members. The
President Mrs. Harvey Hyde
welcomed the guests and gave a
reading "Has Someone Seen
Chrst in You Today?"
Mrs. Esther Wright and Mrs.
Rochus Faber were in charge of
the Devotional. Mrs. Wright read
the scripture and led in prayer.
Mrs. Faber gave the Meditation
on "Peace and Serenity".
Linda and Sylvia Bell favoured
with Musical numbers. Mrs. Earl
Campbell introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Hicks, from
Centralia who showed interesting
and humourus pictures on Africa.
Mrs. Glenn Bell thanked Mrs,
Hicks and all who took part.
Hensa ll United Church
news
Rev. Don Beck conducted the
Hensall United Church service
Sunday when the celebration of
the Lord's Supper was observed
and new members were receved
into membership. Joining the
church by confirmation were
Paul Alexander, Jeffrey Corbett,
Linda Elder, Bradley Mansfield,
Stephen McGregor, John Mickle,
Julie Mock and Gerald Smith.
Being welcomed from another
church was Joan Pepper.
The subject of the message
given by Rev. Beck was, "Put
your hand in the Hand" and he
spoke of our faith in God and how
we must give our hand to God and
He must take our hand.
The choir, led by Mrs. John
Turkheim at the organ, sang the
anthem,"Walk with your God" .
After the service, a reception was
held for the new members in the
Fellowship Hall. Flowers in the
church were from the weddings
of Katherine McEwan and Terry
Gregson and Linda Keys and
Jack Fraser.

A topic or conversation around
Hensall these days that keeps
recurring is the installation
of sewers and the accompaning
amount of dust that goes with it.
While council filed a letter
received in early part of May by
Bevan Bonthron complaining
about the dust on King Street,
council promised Monday that
something was going to be done.
Clerk Bob Hiel told a
disgruntled John Taylor that a
tanker containing 5,000 gallons of
brine will be used as a short term
solution to the dust problem. The
brine is being applied by the
contractor and will not be
charged to the town.
Calcium will not be applied
The church service at the
Queensway Nursing Home was
conducted by the Rev. Don Beck
accompanied by Louise Mitchelll
at the piano. The Christian
Reformed Church ladies took
several residents for a trip to
Exeter Park where they enjoyed
the afternoon. Those driving cars
were Willie Visscher, Alice
Rosenbootn, Karen Knip, Ann
L. Archer, Mrs. D. Reid and Mrs.
R. Boogemans hosted a linen
shower in the Legion Hall in
honour of Kay Davis, bride-elect
of this month. Mrs. MacLean was
in charge of the contests.
The bride—elect occupied a
decorated chair and was
presented with a beautiful array
of gifts by Karen Campbell. Mrs.
Ann Spanton, Sarnia and Mary
Ann Rathwell, Hayfield, assisted
the bride opening gifts. A
delicious lunch was served.
Guests attended from London,
Hayfield, Sarnia and Hensall.

UCW meet
The June meeting of Unit ,coi
Hensall UCW opened with Mrs.
James McAllister reading an
article from "The Upper Room"
based on Acts. Mrs. Nellie Riley
gave a devotional, titled, "Little
Things" and read verses from
Psalms and Romans. Mrs.
McAllister read letters from
missionaries in Brazil and India,
also one brom Brother Bob from
Ashram.
Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt gave a
financial report,and Mrs. Russell
Erratt reported on the packing of
the bale. Unit 4 received an in-
vitation to Chiselhurst on June 30
at 8:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be
September 9 and will be a Pot-
luck luncheon with shut-ins
as guests.
Mrs. Pearl Shaddick and her
committee served lunch at the
close of the meeting during which
Miss Amy Lammie conducted a
quiz.

June 16 meeting in the Legion
Hall, Hensall, at 8:30 p.m.

Call is how to make our daily life
a pleasure.
Mrs. Dave Triebner will give
the current events; Mrs. Grant
MacLean a contest. Mrs. Robert
Kinsman is in charge of lunch
along with the hostesses Mrs.
Alex McGregor and Mrs. M.
Connolly.
A surprise party was held at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Bert
Thomson who celebrated their
25th wedding anniversary June 9.
About 35 friends and relatives
gathered Saturday for several
games of euchre, crokinole and
pool after which a delicious
lunch was served by the
Thompsons' children, John,
Mary, Beatrice and Bruce. They
received many lovely gifts and a
night they will always remem-
ber.
Visitors with Mr. & Mrs,
Gordon Schwalm, Mrs. Elizabeth
Volland and Mrs. Daisy Ivey
during the week were Mr. & Mrs.
Art Coombs of Clinton, Mr. &
Mrs. Cecil Robb of Lucan, Mrs,
Eldon Johnson of Brucefield, Mr.
& Mrs. Lewis Taylor of Varna
and Mrs. Al Hoggarth of Kippen.
Town visitors included Irene
Finlayson and Derek Robinson.

church service in Carmel

delivered an inspriing message

Holiday services will be in the
Hensall United Church June 27 at
11:00 a.m.
Mrs. Hugh Love who has been a
patient in South Huron Hospital
for several weeks returned home
on Saturday.
Mrs. Lloyd Mousseau who
recently underwent surgery in St.
Joseph's Hospital, London
returned to her home last week.
Hensall Sales Barn supply
consisted mainly of heifers and
steers. Demand was steady and
prices were steady. Fat cattle:
heifers $39.60-43.75; top to $45.20;
steers $41.50-45.30, top to $46.00.
Pigs: weanlings $46.00-54.00,
chunks $56.00-$68.00.
Mrs. Gary Merritt and
Gregory of Buckeye, Arizona,
are spending an extended visit
with the former's parents, Mr. &
Mt s. Carl Payne.
Mrs. Verna Hey has taken up
residence in Exeter. Her son
Keith Vancouver has been
holidaying with her.
Mr. & Mrs. Joe Flynn, in
Competition was keen at the
Preliminary Juvenile Contest,
sponsored by the Kirkton
Community Association, at the
South Perth Centennial School on
Friday, evening, June 4th.
Approximately 80 children from
a very wide area displayed their
talents before an appreciative
audience. The adjudicator for
this event was Judy Savoy of
Channel 10, CFPL, London, and
Gerald Paul, of Kirkton, acted as
master of ceremonies.
Adjudicator Savoy selected 18
finalists to appear on July 21 at
the Kirkton Garden Party, when
cash prizes will be awarded to the
winners in the three classes -
vocal, instrumental, and
specialty.

Hibbert United Church held
their anniversary service June 6
with Rev. Grant Dawson from the
Kirkton-Woodharri charge as
guest speaker.
Guest speaker for the evening
was Mr. Hrown of the Mitchell
District High School teaching
staff, He showed slides and spoke
on a trip to Spain, which had been
enjoyed by students and staff of
MDHS earlier this year.

Mr. & Mrs. Hap Swatridge and
Jill, Wingham, visited Saturday
