He is gentle, And his easy-going disposition makes him an ideal mount for women and children. Ile is thrifty, easy to keep and train for multiple uses. He has no equal for rodeoing-cutting, roping, barrel-racing, bull- dogging, The Quarter Horse is intelligent, determined, sure- footed; ideally suited to trail- riding. His stance permits him to move quickly in any direction — to start, stop and turn with the ease and balance of a cat. He is without peer as a race horse up to 440 yards, He can do more jobs better than any other horse in the world. The Quarter Horse survived time and change because he excelled in qualities which were of major importance to the greatest number of persons in diverse occupations and geographical areas. lie was early adopted byiranch ers and cowboys as the greatest round-up and trail-driving horse they had ever seen, for he possessed inherent "cow sense". . The Quarter Horse became established in the Southwest in the early part of the Nineteenth Century. As he trailed cattle north and west, he left his progeny along the way, thus his greatest influence remained in the Southwest until after his registry was established in 1941. In the years after his registry, the breed spread rapidly throughout the 'nation, into Canada, Old Mexico and numerous nations overseas. His registry is now growing faster than any other KAREN FIENPRICK Karen Hendrick daughter of Mr. & Mrs, Hugh Hendrick, Kippen received a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in Photographic Arts from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, Toronto, on Friday June 4. Council cuts upset Usborne Us borne Township Council has come out against a proposal which would reduce the number of members of Huron County Council. The matter was con- sidered at the June session of Council, June 1. In other business, Council learned that the proposed Kirkton-Woodham outdoor swimming pool would cost about $100,000 following a report from the swimming pool committee, That cost was based on a pool 40 ft, by 80 ft. in size, Council postponed the development of an allotment policy for tile drain financing until the Ministry of the Environment comes through with a promised review on present ceilings for tile drain loans. Numerous applications for tile drainage projects have been received 'by the Township, ac- cording to inspector, W.J. Routly. No decision was reached on the adoption of a new building by-law recommended by the Huron County Planning Department until 'Council has had an op- portunity to discuss the proposed legislation with the planner. The township has been authorized to purchase 1.25 acres of land from Ross. S. Tufts, owner of Part Lot 8 S.E.B. Concession at a price of $5,000. The purchase will increase the area of the Community Centre Park. Council discussed plans to contribute to financing and operating a new arena to be located in Exeter with representatives from Exeter Council, Mayor Bruce Shaw, and Reeve Derry Boyle. -Council agreed to make a special grant to the Kirkton Midget girls ball team.
