WILLIAM ROHDE About :30 people attended a surprise going away party for Mr. & Mrs. William Snow Friday evening at the home of Mr. & Mrs, Hog Hodgert. After a social visit euchre was played, Prizes were won by Mrs. Jack Borland, ladies high; ladies low, Mrs. Wilfred Ilunkin, lone hands, Ross Hodgert, men's high, William Rohde and men's low, Jack Borland. Reg Hodgert read a nicely worded address and Mrs. Jack Borland presented Bill and Alma with a lovely mirror. Both replied. All joined in singing "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows". Mr. & Mrs. Snow invited all to visit them in Exeter. A delicious lunch was served. Sunday morning, during the church service, the following members were received by profession of faith: Joyce Cun- ningt on, Marlene Glanville, Diane Hodgert, Lee Hodgert, Mrs. Ted Kernick, Mrs. Wayne Mayer, Pauline Pym and Lori Lynn Stewart and by transfer, Mr. & Mrs. Alvin Epp. The Sunday School members are busy practicing for the an- niversary service which is June 13. Personals Mr. & Nrs. William Cann were in Sarnia and Port Huron, Michigan Saturday participating in the festivities of the Shriners International ceremonial. Mr. & Mrs. Bruce Tuekey of Exeter were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. John Pym. Mr. & Mrs. Hedley May of Exeter were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Ross Hodgert. Mr. & Mrs. Jerry Hartman, Pat and Karen, Mr. & Mrs. Murray Glanville and Benji, Mr. & Mrs. Tony Robertson, Cathy and Tony, Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Terry Pfaff and Valarie Glanville of Gadshill, Allen Riley and Wade Riley of Staffa, Floyd Upshall, Hensall, Sandy McCarthy of Sebringville, Mrs. Joan McCormick of Kirkton, Dave Minhinnick, Mrs. Jean Snell and Kim Riehl were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Chas, Glanville, Mr. & Mrs. Art Heard of Blyth and Verda Kellett of Elimville were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. George Kellett, The oc- casion was the birthday of Verda Kellett which was on June 3. Group W of the United Church Women catered to the Rebekah Banquet Wednesday of last week. A number of people from this community attended the fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration for Mr. & Mrs. Hedley May at Exeter United Church Saturday. David Ballantyne, Thamesford, is visiting with his grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne. Mrs. Ray Cann received a vote of thanks presented by the Lt. Governor Pauline McGibbon at a St. Johns' Ambulance Investiture Saturday at St. Pauls Anglican Church, Toronto, and attended a reception after; given by the Lt. Governor at her suite in Queens Park, Toronto. Ray was also a guest. They also attended a dinner dance at the Park Plaza Hotel, Toronto, Saturday. Monday evening the United Church Women held their June meeting with 24 ladies present. Mrs. Donald Bray opened the meeting with the call to worship. The singing of the hymn "God of the Farmlands" followed, Mrs. William Rohde read the scrip- tures. Mrs. Bray gave the meditation. A reading "We Live Not Simply" by Mrs. George Kellett followed with prayer by Mrs. Rohde,Two poems "Kneeling In A Garden" and "As We Sow" were read by Mrs. Kellett, The group sang "For the Beauty of the Earth." Mrs. Lorne Passmore received the offering and Mrs. Bray gave the offertory prayer. A poem, "The Common Tasks," was read by Mrs. Bray and Mrs. Rohde read "The Housewife's Prayer". Mrs. Bray introduced Mrs. Ray Cann who gave a very in- formative talk on her trip to Mexico and Texas that she and her husband Ray and daughter Cheryl took in the winter time, She also had many things to show that they had brought home with them. Mrs, Lorne Passmore thanked Mrs. Cann and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Glen Stewart opened the business part of the meeting with a poem on June. Roll call, minutes, cards of thanks, treasurer's report and managers report were given. An invitation to Chiselhurst on June 30 was read. Final plans were discussed about the Strawberry Supper which is to to be held on June 21. A committee was appointed to make plans with the managers about the centennial in 1981. "This Is Our Father's World" followed and Mrs. Stewart closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served, By MRS. HUGH MORENZ Several members of the Playhouse Theatre Guild met Tuesday afternoon at the barn theatre, where they had a picnic lunch followed by a meeting, and then a flower planting bee on the Playhouse grounds. During a spring tour the Alberta Bible Institute presented a two part program Thursday night at the Church of God, There were 1.1 in the group, three being faculty members. Theprogram consisted of singing, accompanied by electric piano and guitar, titled "First Love," and "Let Love Live." The ABI family members came from Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. At one time Mrs. John Campbell was an in- structor at this Institute. About 40 attended the Golden Age Club meeting Wednesday at the Village Inn Retreat. President, Bill Love, presided for the business. It was an- nounced that a "Drop In Centre," located in the Village Inn will be open Wednesday and Friday evenings, during the month of July,beginning July 7.So drop in! A walnut "Name Board," was made and donated by Bill Love, which will have the club name and number painted on it. Mike Iredale, Mrs. Mary Ravelle, Mrs. Susie Devine and MrS. Leroy Bariteau, reported attending a meeting in Clinton May 20, when all Senior Citizen clubs in Huron County were organized into Zone 8. grOup is planning a picnic in Bayfield on July 18. Anyone wanting transportation should phone 238-2041. A busload is being organized to attend the Huron Country Playhouse on August 12 to see "Anne of Green Gables." There are still a few tickets available. A white elephant table is planned for the BuffaloBurger Fest with Mrs. Mary Ravelle in charge. Mrs. Marge Mason will take charge of a table of Sr. Citizen articles at the UCW bazaar. After the meeting en- tertainment consisted of a skit "A visit to Aunt Elma," by Mrs. Irvin Rader, of Dashwood, and juggling acts and twisting balloons into various shapes by Steve Harmer. This was the Golden Age club's last meeting until September. The Inn staff served them a delicious turkey dinner. The evening was climaxed by playing cards, music and singing. Rev. J. Thomson from the London Bible Society was guest speaker at the morning and evening services at the Church of God. The morning sermon topic was "Joy", and in the evening he showed Bible Society slides with commentary on Czechoslovakia, Poland and New Guinea. Rev. John Campbell conducted the 47th anniversary services, Sunday, at the Hartford, Church of God. Kathy Hotson was hostess for a surprise msicellaneous and kitchen shower, Saturday evening for Wendy Van Bruaene, bride elect of June 26. The shower was held at the home of Mrs. John Hotson. Rev. Harley Moore's sermon topic was on "Joining the church." The following young people were confirmed into membership of Grand Bend United Church: Trevor Kobe, Jim Lovie, Mary Read, Nancy Read, Erryn Shepherd, Ellen Shepherd and Mark Willert. Elders of the church who assisted Rev. Moore at the ' confirmation service were Mrs. William Blewett, Alec Hamilton and Fred Willert, Mr. & Mrs. Prosper Van Bruaene and Mr. & Mrs. George Kadlecik, attended the Lion's convention, held at the Hilton Hotel in Quebec city, last week. Jennifer Weigand of Dashwood celebrated her first birthday on Saturday and spent the weekend with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Clarke Kennedy. Visitors with Mrs. Stuart Sweitzer this past two weeks have been her mother, Mrs. Elsie Comfort, and her aunt, Mrs. Sylvia Holiday, both of Welland. Mrs. Lawrence Obermeyer spent a week visiting in Con- necticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and visited her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. Herbert J. Brine, and also attended the wedding of her nephew Gary D. Brine to Penny Davidson. Erwin Holt is a patient at University hospital, London, having suffered a heart attack, Mrs. Melvin Peariso is a patient at Strathroy hospital. Mr. & Mrs. Bob Hedley celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary in Grand Bend Legion June 5 with a dance given by their daughter Brenda. It was enjoyed by his brother Matt, his nephews Mr. & Mrs. Ron Hedley and Mr, & Mrs. Bob Hedley and friends from Turnbull's Grove and others. Some came from Windsor, West Lorne, Dutton, London, Hamilton, Oakville, Cooksville, Norval, Georgetown, Stratford, Ingersoll, Waterloo, Exeter and Grand Bend. Thompson, Gladys Reilly and Hilda Daley.
