Judge Hays placed him on Film festival is cancelled The Stratford Frestival has been forced to cancel the Twelfth International Film Festival, announced earlier this year for the final week of the Season in October. Cancellation of the event is due to lack of expected government funding, without which it is impossible for Stratford to finance the week-long presen- tation of films. The Film Festival was to have been held at the Avon Theatre October 9 to October 16, with representation from filmmakers around the world and from the Canadian film industry. As in the past, plans for the non-competitive event were contingent upon federal and provincial grants, which were expected to be forthcoming. The federal grant has been cut back by one-third, however, and the Ontario government has not been able to guarantee financing at this time. Previously, grants were made available through the Festivals Office, Department of the Secretary of State and through the Ontario Ministry of Industry and Tourism. In the light of this new situation regarding financing, Stratford's management has been forced to reconsider its responsibility to film in relation to its respon- sibility to the Festival as a whole and has concluded, reluctantly, that the only way of maintaining fiscal responsibility is to discontinue the event at this time. Costs of mounting a Film Festival of this kind are such that there is no possibility of recovering expenses through the box office, which makes outside funding essential. Want assurance Continued from front page code standards in effect at that time., rather than any new building code which might have been passed later on, Mayor Bruce Shaw asked RAP to prepare a draft of the resolution and said that Exeter Council would consider it at the next meeting. Reeve Derry Boyle suggested that if Exeter approves the resolution that it should be distributed to every municipality in the province. He added that the first logical step would be to send it to Huron County Council for its approval and if passed that County Council could take On the responsibility of province-wide distribution, Municipal resolutions have become a common practice and sometimes have considerable impact upon federal and provincial government policy if endorsed by a significant number of municipalities. An average of two per session are received by Exeter Council dealing with various aspects of government policy and local concerns.
