Ai Ise Craig United Church celebrates 110th anniversary Last Sunday, May 30th, the Ailsa Craig United Church members celebrated its 110th anniversary. Guest preacher for the special occasion was the Rev. Ken Hick, a former minister at Ailsa Craig who served during the years of 1959-64. His sermon was ehtitled, "On Measuring the Church". Special music was provided by the "Maranatha Singers" con- sisting of David Maxwell, of Dundas, and Jerry and Joy Stephenson. The roots of the Ailsa Craig United Church are found in the old Methodist congregation which was organized in 1866. It was located next to the present manse. The building where the horses were tied up while their owners worshipped still remains although the churchbuilding was torn down many years ago. The church had roots also in West's Methodist Church and in earlier Presbyterian congregations in Ailsa Craig and Beechwood, The origin can be traced back in 1856 when Methodism first came to the area as part of the "Devonshire Cir- cuit". The present congregation came into being on June 10, 1925 when all the members of the former Methodist Church with their minister the Rev, D. McTavish and those of the Presbyterian Church with their minister, the Rev. A.W. Gardiner united to form the Ailsa Craig United Church of Canada with a aro"' Clear Gloss or Clear Satin Both Varathane finishes protect and beautify, offering a smooth strong surface that won't peel, crack or chip.
