On the occasion of the fiftieth
anniversary, the Stitch & Chatter
Bridge Club of Dashwood
celebrated the event by en-
tertaining former members to a
dinner at Dashwood Community
Centre on May 28. While signing
the guest book, members and
guests were presented with
corsages and - enjoyed
reminiscing during the social
hour.
During dinner Mrs, Letta
Taylor, founder and, first
president, was presented with a
gift. A moment of silence was
then observed in honor of
deceased members Amelia
Klumpp; Levine Kellerman,
Clarice Guenther, Flora
Oestreicher, Verna Burke and
Mrs. May Moffatt.
President Mrs. Gertrude
McCrae read greetings from
several members unable to at-
tend. Also greetings from the
GNI() Club and Robert McKinley,
MP and Jack Riddell, MPP.
S & C Club's unique celebration
of 50 years looks back with fond
memories. Members meet
weekly at each one's home from
October to May. Through the
years they have supported
various charities, contributed to
building the Dashwood Com-
munity Centre and their one main
project, the War Memorial
Children's Hospital, London since
the club's founding.
Betty Tiernan and Grace
Ankenman thanked the club
members for having organized
this pleasant get together for
members from far away and
being a part of the fiftieth an-
niversary.
Guests came from as far away
as Grand Bend, Ailsa Craig,
Exeter, London, Lakeland,
Florida, Elmira, Don Mills,
Carrying Place, Trenton.
A very happy evening was
spent playing bridge with prizes
going to Hazel Snell, high; Alice
Tieman, lows and it concluded
with anniversary cake and
coffee. Helen Kleinstiver, hidden
score .

spent some time with Mr. & Mrs.
Jack Gaiser, Kim and Lyn.
Max Wagner, Germany, is
spending three weeks with his
sister Mrs. Anna Messner.

Mrs. Garnet Weiberg and family.

meeting at Dashwood Com-
munity Centre Monday, June 7 at
8:00 p.m.

holiday weekend with Mr. & Mrs.

Mrs. Wilmer Harrison of
Goderich.
Mr. & Mrs. Mervyn Tieman
accompanied by Mr. & Mrs, Ross
Love spent Sunday at Sarnia. The
Rev. Wilbur Rogers returns
after absence of 20 years
led by Mrs. Doris McKinley and
accompanied at the piano by
Mrs. Mary Moffatt. Solo part was
taken by Susan McAllister and
the choir of over 60 voices ac-
companied themselves, in many
cases,with ukeleles,Adouble bass
and cymbals,stressingthe'rhythm
of each piece.
Next Sunday, the Sacrament of
the Lord's Supper and Con-
firmation of new members will
take place, with a reception to
follow. Unit 4 will meet Thursday
at 2:30 p.m.
Area band
reorganizes
A packed church greeted the
Rev. Wilbur Rogers when he
returned to Hensall United
Church after a 20 year absence to
preach at the anniversary ser-
vice Sunday. Taking as his
subject, "What are we doing with
the future now?", he told us that
we have to face tomorrow today;
either move forward or back-
wards never stand still.
The WMS of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met
Monday with the president Mrs.
Harvey Hyde presiding. She
opened the meeting with a poem
and prayer.
An invitation to visit
Chiselhurst WCTU June 30 was
accepted. Plans were completed
for the birthday party June 7 with
Mrs. Rochus Faber and Mrs.
Esther Wright in charge, The
guest speaker will be Mrs.
Murray Garvin.
Mrs, Malcolm Dougall and Mrs,
Bert Thompson will be in charge
of the meeting September 13.
Mrs. Clarence Volland
presided for the Ladies' Aid
meeting which followed. The
meeting opened with a hymn and
prayer by Mrs. Volland who also
gave the card report. Treasurer,
Mrs. H. Hyde gave the financial
report. Plans were made to cater
to a wedding August 21.

The Legion Hall was the setting
for a bridal shower Thursday
when neighbours and friends
gathered in honour of Katharine
McEwen of Guelph, bride-elect of
this week.
Contests were directed by Mrs.
Stewart Bell and Mrs. Jack
Corbett gave humorous readings
entitled "Hospital Wedding" and
"A Mother's letter to her son".
The bride-elect assisted by
Sandra Munn and Mrs. Bill Munn
was presented with a shower of
miscellaneous gifts by Mrs, Bell,
Mrs. J. Simmons and Mrs. Mona
Ca my bell.
Katherine expressed her
sincere thanks and refreshments
were served. Other showers have
been held in Toronto, Guelph and
Erin.

charge of the service in Carmel
Presbyterian church on Sunday.
Mr. Morley Hall conducted the
service and Mr. Don Jolly gave
an inspiring message. Mr. Harry
Hoffman. guest soloist, was
accompanied by the organist
Mrs. Malcolm Dougall.

annual birthday party on June 7
