By the way — Quite a bit of church news this week which reminds me - our minister was overheard saying to the garage mechanic "your estimate run- neth over." Born in Chesley, Ontario, Brian was raised in Waterloo County. For the past two years he has been on the staff of Craigwood, Irene, his wife, also shares Brian's appreciation of antiques and has also taken a course at Fanshawe on the subject as well as a re-upholstering course, In addition to marketing antiques, the couple are also open to restoring pieces on request and repairing and re-upholstering any items in need of fixing -up. About eleven years ago Irene made the move along with her parents, Mr, & Mrs. Fred Nor- demann, and the rest of the family from London to Nairn where the family still farms. Along with a wide assortment of antique items including a nice selection of glassware, Brian and Irene are purposely stocking a number of moderate price items suitable for unique shower or wedding gifts. Most of the items will have a British heritage as their two main suppliers are from Britain. Neighboring merchants in the same line of business usually find themselves competing against each other for business. However in the antique trade the opposite is frequently true and dealers often welcome another dealer into their midst in order to attract more collectors to the district. Consequently, Ailsa Craig's established antique dealer G. Goodfellow has given every encouragement and help to the Elliots, Persons are invited to drop in from Tuesday to Saturday. The hours will be Tuesday to Thur- sday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m , Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. "We hope to be informal" explained Brian, "and have people 'come in .and visit' as noted in our ad". Willing workers exhibit handicrafts To conclude their season this year the Willing Workers decided to have an evening for their mothers and friends and give their parents opportunity to see many of the items and projects they had been working on throughout the past several months,' Mothers and friends were invited to "Open House" at the Nairn Mennonite Church Tuesday evening, May 18. About sixty persons accepted the in- vitation and were on hand to see the exhibits. The girls, who meet in two different groups due to the ex- cellent enrollment, displayed health kits they had made up for children in underdeveloped areas of the world. These contain such items as tooth brushes, paste, soap, washcloth, pencil and doodle pad, nail clippers and comb, A "Christmas Bundle" had also been completed which included a set of clothes for a boy along with a toy, a towel and soap which will be distributed at the appropriate season to a child in a mission area. Crafts on display included wall hangings, yarn covered coat hangers, decorated soap, Kuck towels, magnetic cats for decorating refrigerators, yarn snowmen and dippit flowers and hanging lantern complete with live plants. The girls performed a couple of skits for their audience, and served punch and refreshments to their guest. Leaders, Nancy Detwiller, Irene Elliott, Sude Heidebrecht, Edna Nordesmann, Joyce Schlegel and Dora Unger felt the evening was a good success. The handicrafts, along with two crib quilts made by the girls will be taken this weekend to New Hamburg to be sold at the Mennonite Relief Sale and proceeds used for world relief.
