IRVIN RADER The May meeting of Zion Lutheran church Ladies' Aid was a Mother and daughter pot luck supper with group 1 and Mrs. Harry Hayter convener in charge. 76 were present including 24 Ladies' Aid members. Honorary members Mrs. Hilda Wein, Mrs. Laura Datars, Mrs. Maggie Nadiger, and Mrs. Reinhold Miller were head table guests. Mrs. Susan Merner, honorary member, was visited on her 100th birthday and presented with a rose corsage. Others not able to be 'present were recognized. Elizabeth Datars proposed a toast to the mothers and Mrs. Earl Keller to the daughters. Mrs. Marvin Barz, Goderich, thanked the women for the supper. Gifts were presented to Mrs. Oluf Pedersen, lucky saucer; Mrs. Ernest Koehler, birthday nearest; Stacey Rader, youngest daughter; Mrs. Lorne Becker, youngest grandmother; Mrs. Hilda Wein, oldest grandmother; mother with the most children in school, Mrs. Marvin Barz. The junior choir sang several . selections and Barbara and Brenda Rader gave a reading, Mrs. Arnold Becker, president, conducted a brief business meeting. The Altar Guild reported 22 treats, 5 phone calls, 4 treats, 1 bouquet. The new Guild is Mrs. Ray VanDorsselaer and Helen Nadiger, Mrs. Marie Tiernan showed a film, "The Kyoquat School", a school in British Columbia. Mrs. Joanne McKnight spoke on ecology boxes and had several on • display. She also spoke on her new hobby quilling, A draw for a Mother's day plaque was won by Mrs. Florence Keller. Personals Mrs. Edith Beierling spent a few days in London with Mr. & Mrs. Norman Beierling last week. Mr. & Mrs. Oluf Pedersen observed their 55th wedding anniversary Tuesday, May 11. Mr. & Mrs. Art Haugh, London, spent some time with Miss Pearl Kraft last week. Confirmation Seven young adults were By PAUL SALMON On the evening of May 13, the PTA of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School held a well attended, event-filled meeting in the school gymnasium. The first highlight of the meeting was the draw to declare the winner of the grocery hamper which had been raffled off by students at the school. Mrs, Alfons VanSas was the lucky winner of the hamper which contained thirty-five dollars worth of groceries. The second highlight of the meeting was the showing of a film, "Saying Good-bye" which dealt with the preservation of wildlife. The PTA is to be congratulated on holding a meeting which contained a perfect balance of business and pleasure, A further congratulation to the school's PTA must also be mentioned with regard to their charitable donation of $100 which was sent to the Save A Family fund in India, The pupils at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School wish to announce that their Variety Night will be held on May 27. The children of each room will be presenting ten to twenty minutes of en- tertainment and parents are advised not to miss out on the fun. The children at the school will also be participating in the May Crowning, in honour of the Blessed Virgin, to be held on Sunday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt, Carmel Church, As of late Mr. and Mrs. Wilfrid I-logan have been making frequent visits to St. Mary's Hospital in London, where they have been visiting Mrs. Hogan's sister, Mrs. Herb Hartman, a long-time patient at the hospital, If the speedy rate at which Mr. Tom Fleming is constructing his new home in our village is any indication of general progress, we can expect Mt. Carmel to be a city of sky-scrapers by 1980! On Friday, May 7, Mr. & Mrs. Nick Jeromkin Jr. and their son Klaus headed about 300 miles north to the family's cottage on Lake MacKenzie near Bancroft. On the following Sunday, Mr. & Mrs. Jeromkin took Klaus to Pettawawa, a community 100 miles further north, where Klaus, a member of the armed forces, will be stationed for the next three years. The two parents returned to Mt. Carmel on the night of Monday, May 10. BARBECUE WINNER — Geraldine Stone won the traveller gas barbecue in the Tenderspot's grand open- ing draw Saturday. U.C.W. meeting The Community Friendship committee with Mrs. Syd Baker in charge of the program for the May meeting of Calvary United Church Women ' was held Tuesday. It was visitation night when members met at the church and went out to visit the shut-ins. Everyone returned to the church and shared their experiences with the group. Mrs. Mervyn Tieman, president, dealt with the business. The ladies were reminded of the visit of Dundas Street choir May 16. The Sun- shine committee is Mrs. Lloyd Eagleson and Mrs. Gordon Bender.
